The Village of Stoikite is scattered among five different hamlets. It is mentioned for the first time in historical sources in a document from 1706 by the French traveller Pall Lukas. It was populated in the 17 century during one of the waves of forced muslimization in the Rhodopes. For a long time this was also the dwelling place of the shepherds from Shiroka Luka.
The Rhodopes are a unique system of mountain ridges and deep river valleys. Its higest peak is Mt. Goljam Perelik (2191m above sea level). The river valleys and gorges that cut into the rocks are wild and impressive. Best known among them are Trigrad and Buinovsko Gorges. Following are pictures of some of the most impressive Natural and Manmade Sites. More detailed information concerning the area, sites and hiking trails, you can find here. Some of the hiking trails that are starting near Stojkite are: Shiroka Luka- Smoljan Lakes Hut; Shiroka Luka- Perelik Hut; Perelik Hut- Lednizata Hut; Shiroka Luka-Gela; Trigrad- Yagodina- Yagodinska Cave.
