KIDS AND TEENS
Attention: High School Students
Setting Your Sight Beyond High School: Strategies To Get What You Need and Most of What You Want

Objectives:
1) Reduce isolation by creating a social network
2) Facilitate learning utilizing directed discussions of customized topics
3) Enhance social skill development

Evaluations of previously piloted program proved this to be an effective strategy to connect folks across the country, teach, create awareness, and build confidence for managing the next step to adult life.  Participants said:
"I will be more active and consistent in taking care of my health-care needs."
"It was helpful to meet others with SB and hear about their experiences."
"I liked meeting with people from across the country."
"I would recommend this program to other teens with Spina Bifida."

The tele-program starts February 27th 2006 for nine weeks - one hour a week -- over a telephone bridge line.  If you know of a teen or young adult that would like to connect with 8 -12 other individuals with SB and learn and discuss topics important for the future, please recruit them for participation.

Please don't hesitate to call or email for questions.

Exercise video

SBAA is in the process of creating an exercise video for teens with the National Center on Physical Activity and Disability.     In the meantime, SBA can let you know that these currently availably videos were tested by our focus group of teens.
1. "Sit Tight" by Richard Simmons
2. "Fit Kids" by Denise Austin
3. "Exercise Program" by National  Center on Physical Activity  and Disability
4. "YogaFit Kids" by YogaFit
5. "Hip Hop & Rock" by the  University of Memphis  Center for Community  Health
6. "Paige's Workout Party" by PaigesWorkoutParty.com

Number 1 & 3 would be especially good for seated exercising.
Fundraising:  A Family Affair

Bob Gladfelter takes a pie in the face from his son, Josh.  This was part of a day of fun planned by Josh Gladfelters family to benefit SBAgPA.

Josh Gladfelter has long been an inspiration to his family and friends.  This year his family hosted their Fifth October Spina Bifida event at their business, Poplar Hollow Farm.  They raised over $1700 at the event and over $3000 by sending a donation request letter to their family, friends and business associates, bringing their total to almost $5000!

This will be the last event at Poplar Hollow, as the Gladfelters have sold the business.  We wish them well in their new ventures and thank the whole family, especially Kim, Joshs mom, who has coordinated the events.  With the help of their many friends, they have raised over $23,000 in the past 5 years! Way to go!
