Chapter 7
"At least I didn't have to give you a hang over to get with you,"Paul wispered to Claire loudly enough for John to hear.
"No, it was just so good that this is an effect," John joked.
Everyone laughed even Jessica even though it was obvesiouly hurting her head.
"Well, what are we going to do today ?"Claire asked.
"I know what you two are going to do,"John said.
"Let's go down to the ocean and go to lunch and stuff,"Claire suggested to Paul.
"And we can go shopping," Sydney said.
"Except I have no money," George said.
"And we can't let you spend all our money. We don't know how long we're gonna be here," Claire said.
Everyone suddenly got quiet.
"But it's not going to be today,"Claire added.
"Or for a while I hope,"Paul added.
"I hope not to," Claire said giving him a hug.
"Ok well let's go se a movie. Oh I mean a picture,"Sydney suggested.
"That'll work,"George said.
"And we can stay here trying to feel better,"Jessica said to John.
"If you need me, I'm only sleeping," John said as the girls tried to stop themselves from cracking up.
"Oh, Sydney, I may need some money,"Claire said
"What if I don't want to give you any?"Sydney asked as she handed Claire some money.
"OK, well we'll meet back here at....um...6:00 ok," George said.
"All righty then," Claire said as she went into her room to get dressed.
Paul and George waited for Claire and Sydney as they changed, because they were already dressed.
"Um... how are we going to get to the beach?"Paul asked as they left.
"I guess we can take a cab,"Claire answered, so they did.
"I don't really wanna see a picture" Sydney said.
"Me neither" George said.
"But then what do we do?" Sydney asked.
"I would say a walk, but that's all we've been doing this whole time" George said.
"Let's just walk and then when we find something to do, we'll just do it" Sydney suggested.
"Sounds fine" said George.
They left.
"Good back to bed for me" Jessica said sighing.
"And me" John said.
"To my room? Not like we can do anything....ugh headache" Jessica said.
John agreed and they walked into her room and flopped down on the bed. They quickly went to sleep.
Meanwhile Paul and Claire had just gotten out of the cab.
"Here we are" Paul said.
"Do you realize we didn't bring swimsuits?" Claire asked.
"We don't have to swim" Paul said.
"Let's walk by the water" Claire suggested.
They took off their shoes off and walked into the shallow water.
"So how long will you be here?" Paul asked her.
"I'm not sure" Claire said sadly.
"How come you're not sure?" he inquired.
"Complications on going back home" Claire said.
"Oh ok" he said looking away.
"Sorry, it's just that we don't know if we can go home" she said taking his hand.
"If? Why couldn't you go back home?" he asked.
"Umm...problems with my parents and with transportation. But let's not think about all of this right now" she said quickly.
"That's a good idea" he said.
Sydney and George were walking down the street.
"Hey look at that store" Sydney said pointing.
"Let's go" George said.
They walked into the store.
"So how long are you going to be in Hamburg?" George asked.
"I'm not sure exactly" she said slowly.
"How can you not know?" he asked.
"I have problems with some people back home" she said quickly.
"Like your parents?" he asked.
"Yeah, but let's not talk about it now. Let's just enjoy ourselves" Sydney said.
They looked through the racks of clothing.
"Oh, I love these pants" Sydney said holding them up so George could see.
"How come you dress in black and Claire and Jessica don't?" he asked.
"Just do. I'm more comfortable like this and they are more comfortable the way they are" she said shrugging.
"I like you just the way you are" George said quietly.
Paul and Claire had sat down in the sand. They were both in silent thought.
"John and Jessica don't seem to be getting on as well as I think Jessica hoped" Paul said breaking the silence.
"That's right. John's not as sweet as you are" Claire said.
Paul laughed.
"Thanks. John isn't always obnoxious" he said.
"We know" Claire said.
"How?" Paul asked.
"Ugh just by the way he is with you and Stu and the other guys" she said quickly.
"Yeah, but I feel bad for Cyn" he said.
"Yeah, does she even know what is going on?" she asked him.
"She just loves him so much, I don't think she even realizes" he said sadly.
The rest of the day, Jessica and John slept. At 6:00 everyone was back at the girls' house.
