AIT Day 20

October 16th, 2002

Another boring weekday. It's cold and rainy out there. It's the kind of day that makes you wonder why you're not a professional surfer.

Our Columbus Day sucked. Everyone else got to enjoy their day off at the rec or sleeping or going off post. My class (38 of us) had class A uniform refitting. It took all freakin' day. We started right after lunch and finished just in time for final formation. If you can imagine anything more boring than sitting in line at a dry cleaning place almost all day, I'd like to know.

We had a room and wall locker inspection last night. All the DS found wrong was a little dirt on my class A shoes and spots behind the toilet. We had to get up at 0400 this morning for reinspection. What a bitch.

My day got better when they canceled PT because it was cold, muddy, and rainy. I went back to bed for 45 mins. You wouldn't think the army would cancel training for rain. Neither did I. Maybe the air force, but not the army. I also got 100% on my second test. How could I not? It was open notes.

After we get released, I have no plans besides going to the gym and talking to my girl. Hopefully the DSs will leave us alone, unlike last night with the stupid inspection.

Here's what I learned so far: How an engine works, cooling system, lubrication system, air induction and exhaust system, and diesel engines. Right now I'm getting ready to take a class on hydraulics. For the next week we'll learn break systems, electrical systems, suspension, steering, and other stuff. It's very interesting. Now if only I could stay awake. I think I'm developing brain damage from my head bobbing so much. One of these days, *SMACK* Right on my desk. I never fell asleep in class during basic. I thought it was discipline, but now I know why. It was because I didn't want to get smoked. Now the worse we do is 25 push ups.
