PEANUT PRODUCTION AND MARKETING BOARD LAW, 5719-1959*
Definitions. 1. In this Law --
  • "grower" means a person growing peanuts on an area of at least half a dunam ;
  • "the Ministers" means the Minister of Agriculture and the Minister of Trade and Industry.
Establishment of
Board.
2. There shall be established a "Peanut Production and Marketing Board" (hereinafter referred to as "the Board").
Functions of
Board.
3. The functions of the Board shall be -
  • (1) to encourage the development of the peanut industry, including the improvement of the methods of cultivation and the heightening of labour productivity and the standard of the crops;
  • (2) to plan the growing of peanuts with a view to the interests of the industry ;
  • (3) to centralise and regulate the marketing of peanuts ;
  • (4) to advise the Ministers on all matters relating to the growing and marketing of peanuts.
The Board-
a corporation.
4. The Board shall be a corporation, competent to enter into any obligation, to assume any right and to be a party to a legal act.
Composition of
Board.
5.
  • (a) The Ministers shall prescribe the number of the members of the Board, which shall not be less than twenty; the Board shall include representatives of the public, one representative of the World Zionist Organisation -- Jewish Agency (hereinafter referred to as "the Agency") and representatives of the Government.
  • (b) The number of the representatives of the Government shall be one quarter of the total number of the members of the Board.
Appointment of
representatives of
the Government.
6. The mode of appointment of the representatives of the Government shall be prescribed by the Ministers by regulations; the Minister of Agriculture shall appoint from among them the chairman of the Board, and the Minister of Trade and Industry shall appoint from among them the vice-chairman of the Board.

7. The representative of the Agency shall be appointed by the Ministers upon its recommendation.
