ABOUT SAVE OUR STRAYS, INC.

Save Our Strays, Inc. is a not for profit, "No-Kill" animal sanctuary. The sanctuary resides on 6 acres. There are 20 outside kennels where the animals
get a taste of good fresh, country air. They also enjoy seeing the rabbits and
deer that are around.

We currently have 2 kennel workers that clean, feed, water and give personal attention to these animals. At the present, there are a total of 75 dogs residing there.

Approximately 6 years ago, I became overwhelmed with the ever-disturbing issue of "stray" animals in our community and county.   No one seemed to care about giving these unwanted, homeless animals a chance.  I became involved with a program called "Adopt-A-Pet" at a local store.  The "Adopt-A-Pet" days went pretty well, but it did nothing for the real problem - stray animals. No one seemed to be spaying/neutering their pets.  So, with our personal funds, we began the enormous task of beginning a spay/neuter program in our county.

We have done what we can, but there is so much more that can be accomplished.  Three years ago, I started helping the city of Lexington, Missouri with the animals that are picked up through the city pound.  Before Save Our Strays, Inc. began helping Lexington, virtually every animal was destroyed.  Since we began helping, in 1997, 260 dogs and cats were picked up, of those 6 were "put down".  In 1998, 220 dogs and cats were picked up, and of those, 2 were "put down".  In 1999, 160 dogs and cats were picked up, and only 1 was "put down".  In November 1999, Save Our Strays, Inc. teamed up with the NSPA in Kansas and started having "Adoption" days at PetsMart in Olathe, Kansas.  For the year 2000, Save Our Strays adopted out 738 dogs and cats.  As of December13, 2003, we will be doing our pet adoptions at the Clive, Iowa Petsmart.  Each weekend, our small caravan will travel from Princeton, Missouri, which is about 1 hour away, to the PetsMart store where we find families to take home our strays.

Save Our Strays' Mission

Our mission is to end healthy pet euthanasia and to assist
the many homeless, helpless animals on the road to
finding them good, loving, and caring homes.

Save Our Strays' Purpose

Our purpose is to rescue animals in shelters who are scheduled to
be euthanized, and to take in those animals who are abused and
neglected.  All animals in our care receive veterinary care,
vaccines, spay/neuter procedures and are offered up for adoption.
