Hmmmm"If we depend on our own ideas, our own judgments, and our own efforts to reproduce the life of Christ, we will only act out some kind of pious charade which will ultimately scare everybody we meet because it will be so stiff and artificial and so dead." --Thomas Merton, from Doug.
I think that this says a lot about our current situation. I can think of quite a few Christians that scare non-christians. There is a fine line between being "in the world, but not of it" and being stupid. We have no sense of tact in our interactions with non-Christians. I really hate it when evangelism is done in this manner (and most of it is). I guess that this quote applies in that if we love others, and put them above ourselves (servanthood), then our lives will be more life-like and Christ-like. Furthermore, in light of Merton's quote, we need to let God make us like Christ, then the love and servanthood thing will have no choice but to fall into place.
That's easy for me to say. Now let's see if I can make some real-life application in my life.
