You should really read Cynewulf's Christ III. I haven't had time to really digest the theology involved, but the imagery is mind-boggling. Make sure you choose the modern english version. The old english is a little rough.

Does anyone know how you pronounce "sceaða fæcne"?

I took another personality type test today. It says I am an INFP. On the page called "Great Careers for INFP's" it includes "Religious worker." Ay!

God is Love.
Love is Blind.
Ray Charles is Blind.
Ray Charles is God.

Ever notice how some people try to explain Biblical Truth with their own style of logic?

As you can tell, I have some free time today...again.

Apparently, the hip thing to do now is give a tour of your home on your blog. Here's a couple of links to some pages:

I just finished hearing a presentation from a friend of mine who spent a few weeks last summer working as a missionary in Hati. He was talking about the Vodou culture there, and how it is really a blend of African religions and Roman Catholicism. He said that actually, most vodou practitioners would put American Christians to shame in that they follow Catholicism so devoutly. They think Americans practice spirituality as a form of recreation.

That really stuck with me. It really makes a lot of sense, even among Christians. Our faith isn't who we are, it's something we do on the weekends, just like watching football or going to the lake. It's only a hobby to us.

Now I understand why people act as they do towards me. When I try to share Jesus Christ with someone, it's the cultural equivalent to me saying, "I like playing the piano, wanna learn how to play, too?" My faith is only a pastime to them. If I invited someone over for a home Bible study, would they see it the same as a spiritual tupperware party?

I realize that even in my own life I can treat Jesus as just a hobby. I practice my faith when I feel up to it. I go to church every Sunday because "it makes me feel good." There are some times when Christianity is not "who I am," but rather, "what I do."

I really hate the culture that we have created. It is totally based on convenience. Lord have mercy. Literally.

[I hope that no one interpreted my references to Catholicism as "anti-Catholic," or biased against them in any way. Actually, for a Southern Baptist, I admire the respect that the Catholic Church shows for God. And just so you know, I am going to a Catholic wedding in a coulple of weeks, and I am looking forward to being in a place of such reverence.]

Can you believe this?

I've noticed the way that using Latin phrases makes one sound well-versed and educated. Here's some good ones for ya:

Semper Ubi Sub Ubi
"Always wear underwear"

Gramen artificiosum odi.
I hate Astroturf.

Furnulum pani nolo.
I don't want a toaster.

Nihil curo de ista tua stulta superstitione.
I'm not interested in your dopey religious cult.

Da mihi sis bubulae frustrum assae, solana tuberosa in modo Gallico fricta, ac quassum lactatum coagulatum crassum.
Give me a hamburger, french fries, and a thick shake.

Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur.
Anything said in Latin sounds profound.

(from this Latin page.)

The Verse of the Moment:

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
--John 1:1-5
