I went to a funeral for an old guy at our church. He was pretty cool. I think that he was 71 years old.

It might sound kinda cheesy, but I was really inspired to think that he was in heaven now. I guess that I've never been to a funeral for a person that I knew was a Christian.

I actually got emotional thinking that there really is a place prepared for me in heaven. Here's something for you to chew on:

John 14:1-3

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God ; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."

I want so bad to hear God say to me, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." I want that more than anything.

We've been going through the "sermon on the mount" from Matthew 5-7 at Church lately. It's some pretty good stuff about living life as a Christian. Last night, we kinda finished it up and we talked about this section:

Matthew 7:13,14

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

A lot of people use this verse to show that most people are on the broad road to destruction. It is the easy road, and most people are on it. The narrow road, however, is not as easy, but it is the true way to God.

I agree with this interpretation. However, most people use it as a way to measure if other people are truly converted (which is a valid interpretation). If this is the only way that you see this verse, you are missing the best part.

This passage is a sign to you to show if you are really "saved." Actually from verse 13 to verse 23 are several tests to check yourself out. Yes, they are a way to gague others, but I think that Jesus' intent was that these be internalized.

Are you walking on the narrow road? Are you going the same places as the rest of the world? Do you have the same hopes, plans, dreams, wants, etc? Maybe you should check yourself out. Notice that only a few people find the narrow road.

Are you looking for it, or just going along with everyone else?

The Verse of the Moment:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
