Biorhythm : Darren Hayes

8th May 1972 marked the arrival of a new addition to the Hayes household in Logan, Brisbane, Australia - a bouncing baby girl by the name of Darrlina Stanlye Hayes. Darrlina was born to an oil baron father and a beautician mother, who tried their best to train their youngest daughter to be a polite and prim lady. Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain.

Growing up in a neighbourhood of boys, Darrlina wasn't too happy being a girl as she felt left out. Darrlina became influenced and soon managed to fool everybody into thinking that "she" was actually a "he". Darrlina even changed the information on her birth cert to mark her "gender change". This change enabled her to rise to fame as the only "boy" in activities usually involving groups of girls, such as the drama club and choir. She, though, considered herself "erratic, paranoid and a self-confessed freak" and her only wish was to "drive the yellow BatMobile to the formal". Soon, though, there would be changes in her life - significant changes.

During her second year at university, Darrlina decided to make the birth certificate change even more real by undergoing a gender change operation. Darrlina was now Darren, a boy like (s)he always wanted. Darren became a school teacher right after receiving his diploma in Education, but that career did not last long, for soon Darren would receive the chance to be what he always wanted to be, besides being male : super-stardom. That chance came in the form of a newspaper ad - an audition for the lead singer of Red Edge, a Brisbane band almost down to the dumps due to financial problems.

Even though Darren did rather badly at that audition - his voice cracked and he forgot his lines - Darren still managed to grab the attention of Daniel Jones, lead instrumentalist of Red Edge. Darren and Daniel immediately clicked and Darren was selected as Red Edge's new lead singer. That click, though, was more than a musical attraction...

It was 1994. Darren and Daniel were busy writing songs for their new demo in their new band, Savage Garden. They have recorded another demo earlier, but it was rejected by over 150 record companies. Savage Garden were frustrated - Darren in particular, as he had written most of the songs on the earlier demo. He was now putting his hopes on his partner Daniel, who had double duty as songwriter and composer. Darren admired Daniel's work, but soon found out that the admiration he had for Daniel was more than just lyrical. It was "Universe" which started it all - an instrumental song which Darren added the words to. Darren was busy writing the lyrics to the song when he started thinking about what the lyrics meant. Daniel came into his mind and he soon realized that there was a little bit of "girlyness" left in him - something which was drawing him closer to Daniel.

Darren soon lost his virginity - to Daniel.

Darren and Daniel soon became a couple, and they soon married, with Daniel passing himself of as Colby, Darren's "wife". They were soon musical partners by day, married couple by night. As they became Savage Garden the popular musical group, their relationship went on, until mid-1998, where their secret was found out...by the tabloids. Darren felt so pressured that he let everything out recently, drawing surprise from everybody. There was to be one more secret, though - Darren was a vampire.

Every other night, especially during tour dates, Darren would get a sudden urge to consume blood. If it wasn't Daniel's blood, it was surely one of the fans', usually those with backstage passes. It was just lucky that no-one died in Darren's vampire trysts - he doesn't drink much. That "vegetarian" stories he usually would concuct were actually made to cover his vampirist activities. They, too, were found out later on, when a victim reported the case to the media.

Savage Garden are still together, and so is the "marriage". Darren has temporarily stopped his vampirist activities, but it's pretty certain he will resume them. For now, though, he is a normal person...maybe half-normal.
