Love Pains

July 18, 2001

I look deep into your dark brooding eyes
Waiting for a glimmer of love
A spark of compassion to be returned
Instead, white lightening as your fist strikes my jaw
Bones crack, blood gushes
I am knocked off my feet, landing at yours
I look up at you like a beaten puppy
You are blurry through the tears
But I fool myself to see sadness on your face

As I reach to lay my head at your feet
Your leg violently jerks forward
Slamming a hard foot into my stomach
The room is spinning
Why do you show your love like this
When all I want is a soft touch
I am sobbing, trying to make you understand
I need to be loved, need to be held

Falling to your knees, you reach out for me
Removing my shirt, you gently press your body to mine
I am forgetting the pain you just gave me
And focus on your tenderness
I knew there must be kindness in you
I knew you must be human

I hear a click
It is your knife blade snapping
As you open it up behind my back
"You are mine, I own you," you say to me
"And all men shall know you are mine"

I am confused for a moment
Then sharp pain on my shoulders
As you jab the tip of the steel into my skin
Dragging it through my flesh to carve your initials
Branding me as your property

As the blood trickles down my back
You kiss the wound and tell me you love me
A lie
I am yours forever
Another lie
But I believe you
Because the pain of a wounded body
Cannot compare to the pain of an empty soul

From Whence you Came
