Earliest Spring

January 22, 2001

Solar fires blazing down
Melting snowflakes on the ground
Crystals soften, disappear
Signs of Spring soon to be near

Beneath the crust, bulbs come to life
Stretching upward, straight and right
A shoot of green, the sun it seeks
Above the ground it finally peeks

Two leaves appear and then two more
Along the stem a bud will soar
And then with all its strength and power
The swelling bursts into a flower.
