What exactly is the Satorian?

The Satorian is the Literary Magazine of Skyline High School. Published once a year, the Satorian is made for students who love writing/art and want to share a sample of their writing/artistic ability with the rest of the school.

Who is in charge of the Satorian?

The Satorian is owned by Skyline High School and run by a Skyline students and their advisor, Judy Stone. All decisions affecting the Satorian are made by the Satorian Staff, the Editors, and the Advisor.

How can I join the Satorian Staff?

The Satorian Staff is chosen once a year around registration (about End of February, beginning of March). Applications are available by talking to Judy Stone in room #120. Please remember, the final decision of who will be on next year's staff is the decision of this year's staff and Mrs. Stone. You will be asked to fill out a questionnaire, submit samples of writing, and dance like a chicken at a Satorian party. Please note that a small bribe in unmarked bills is a nice gift to ensure a place on next year's staff.

What kind of things can I submit to the Satorian?

The Satorian wishes not to limit what you can submit. The following is a general list of what the Satorian Staff is looking for. If you want to submit something not on the list please contact a member of the Satorian staff or contact Judy Stone in room #120 to okay it.

  • Poetry (all types)
  • Prose (short stories, plays, essays, etc.)
  • Music (lyrics, sheet music, recordings, etc.)
  • Art (photographs, drawings, paintings, pictures of sculpture or jewelry, computer generated graphics, pictures of clothing you've designed/created, cartoon images, etc.)
  • Please contact the staff with any other questions about types of submissions. CONTACT STAFF

How can I buy the Satorian?

The Satorian will be sold a number of times throughout the school year. Look for us at Registration, Eagle Fest, and around the time the magazine is published. Satorians cost $10 and are also available in the bookstore and room #120 .

How do I submit to the Satorian?

This year the Satorian Staff is providing a variety of ways for you to submit to the magazine.

  • Submit your work online by filling out the form found on this web site. Online Submit Form
  • Talk to Judy Stone in Room #120 and ask for a submisson form.
  • Ask your English teacher for a submission form.

After receiving a submit form please fill it out, paper clip a copy of your work/art to the form and turn into room #120 or turn it into a Satorian box found in any english class room.

When do I find out if I made it into the magazine?

After you submitted please be patient and allow the Satorian Staff time to look at and review all submissons. After the Staff has reviewed all submissions and decided you will receive either a letter stating you will be published in the magazine or a letter stating your work will not be published. Please remember the Satorian Staff wishes to publish all the work they receive, but space is limited and only the very best may be published. Don't let that discourage you from submitting! Who knows, your work might already be outstanding, wonderful, and superb -- exactly what the Staff is looking for!

Are there any perks for submitting to the magazine?

Of course there are perks to submitting to the magazine!! Other wise, why would we even have one?

Think of how good being published will look on a college application. Colleges love it when prospective students have been published. It shows that you have a certain amount of writing/artistic ability and that you have what it takes to survive in a competitive world, much like their college campuses.

Think of your parents! How much would they love to see their son/daughter published in the school magazine? They would be ecstatic to see their little pride and joy published. They'll start to call you the next Leonardo da Vinci, the next Jane Austin, or even the next William Shakespeare. They will take the magazine to work with them, make everyone within a two foot radius read your submission, and commence in bragging about your lifetime of outstanding achievements. Parents love nothing more than bragging about their brilliant, wonderfully artistic, published children. Not to mention, when your parents are in a frenzy over your publication you have the perfect opportunity to ask for that special something you've always wanted. We see a new CD in your future...perhaps new clothing...perhaps even a new car!

English and Art Teachers also tend to look kindly upon students who submit to the magazine. Just a few points shy of getting an "A"? Need some mega extra credit to bring that "C+" up to a "B-"? Well, English and Art Teachers are known to offer extra credit or bonus points to students who submit to the magazine. Imagine how willing they could be to give more extra credit if you actually get published. English and Art Teachers love it when you get published because it reflects well on them and their teaching abilities. After all, who taught you to be such an outstanding writer/artist?

The last perk comes from the Satorian Staff itself. If you submit to the magazine and get published you will be invited to attend the Satorian Reception. At this prestigious event you will indulge in wonderful food, thought provoking conversation, and outstanding music -- all of which are free. Oh, did we forget to mention that the reception takes place during the school day and you'll be excused from one of your classes for the whole period? Plus, if you've pre-ordered your Satorian, you'll receive it at the ceremony before any of your friends get their copies. Think, you'll be the envy of everyone!!!
