I think the only entry I've gotten really good feedback from is Biblical Humor, probably because it's one of the only one's where I'm not crying over me.
And hey guess what. I got to do another reading.
This time at my aunt's wedding.
For most of the day I was pretty bitter, only because my mom yelled at me (because she couldn't find her shoes). I kept asking what I was supposed to do, was I supposed to bring my paper with me, did I have to bow, and the list goes on. She said that someone would tell me. They never did. So I watched the first reader to see what she did.
I'm never nervous in public speakings. I could talk to a crowd of a thousand people and not be nervous. I could do press conferences and answer questions, but for the love of God, I cannot read speeches.
I ended up bowing really awkwardly, but the microphone didn't squeal when I moved it. I messed up twice - once where I skipped over a word, and once where I just stalled for a few seconds to collect my thoughts. I quickly ended it and solemnly walked back to my seat. Never again, I reminded myself, never again.
They got married in about 15 minutes, which pleased me, because the seats were cold. Naturally, as in any mass, we waited for the people farthest back to start leaving first. They just stood there. My mom pushed my out into the aisle and said, 'Oh I'm not waiting for this crap.'
Everyone told me I did a good job, but come on, it was a stupid reading, it's not as if I gave a speech. I said to my dad, 'It just wasn't the same without alter entertainment,' referring to the Bagel Kids from my previous reading.
In 5 minutes we had already got down to the restaurant. My favorite worker there was the greeter.
'Do you have a reservation?' he asked, and continued to flip through the book when the name was given. After about 30 seconds, my mom offered,
'Uh, it's a wedding?'
He shut the book. 'Oh, the wedding. Why didn't you say so,' he said dropping his professional manner and bringing out his Boston accent.
Upstairs there were no chairs. There was just a table with food against the wall. My aunt gave me a chocolate covered strawberry. I never ate it. I don't like strawberries.
My cousin Chris's wife Lori came up to me and we started talking. I never get to see her, but she is by far my favorite. I can talk to her for hours, and that's not exaggerated. Everytime I see her we end up literally talking for hours. But again, I don't see her much.
I'm getting tired of typing... but anyway... we ate dinner, and me and two three-year-olds are the only ones who got chicken. We also go it early, because as my dad said, 'You'll get too cranky, and we're hoping you'll fall asleep in the car.'
Blah blah blah, etc, etc, there was really nothing else... I'm really tired now.
