- Story -
Silverchair rose to fame in 1994 after they
won a radio competition called "pick me" with tomorrow,
this got them a video clip, after the song was aired only once sony
wanting to sign them. The band ended signing to murmur a side of
sony.
In 1995 silverchair's debut album "frogstomp"
was released, blending there then current grunge influences and
there own melody. It hit no#1 in Australia and New Zealand, which
got them touring with RHCP. The song tomorrow became a big hit and
was played continuosly, building up a strong fanbase. Silverhcair
a;sp grew popular in the US which was a hard thing to do but was
pulled off well. The album climbed the charts and hit MTV. Silverchair
toured the album through half of 1996 and 1995.
Silverchair created there second album "Freakshow"
in the last part of 1996. It although didnt do as well as "Frogstomp"
you can here the amuturity compared to the previous. It was filled
with heavier hooks and also more melody. "Freakshow" took
Australia by storm and gradually built a fan base around the world.
The release of the great album which out
sold "Freakshow" - "Neon Ballroom", Daniel Johns
put more depth and feeling in his music in this era as he suffered
eating disorders and depressive moods. This gave the album supreme
maturity compared to the others and a new style. Silverchair toured
most of 1999 and took a break in 2000 and ended with sony. "Neon
Ballroom" overall was a rapid improvement which was hard to
do compared to there previous albums.
"Diorama" arrived in Australia
in April and i managed to import myself a version, i was very shocked
by the album as it was abnormaly different yet better than previous
albums. Diorama means “a world within a world”. It’s
a particularly apt name for Silverchair’s new CD as this evocative
piece of work lifts you out of the everyday and carries you into
a world of its own. After failing to be able to tour the album as
planned because of reactive arthritus that showed serious signs
of not giving in the band had to lay low. However now silverchair
are about to re-kick off there tour although only including small
amounts of dates except for Australia it looks like people will
have to wait for the next albums tour.
