The winter of 2000 was the first winter Ruthie and I got to spend together, and for the first time since I realized I wasn’t Christian, I had a tree up in my dorm room. The first ornament picked out for the tree was two oak leaves with two hanging acorns, to symbolize to me a piece of my religion in a world that tries to hide anything non Christian or Jewish. Ruthie then picked out an angel, then I got a reindeer that appears to be in flight, and then Ruthie got another angel. Ruthie then remembered she had a pack of snowflake ornaments she got in Frankenmuth back in October that don’t look right in her room. To top the tree we got a fiber optic star, icicle tinsel strands, a few packs of plastic bulbs from odd lots, and the metallic “icicles” that people put on trees, there cheap and since I only had fish, safe.
I don’t know what will happen for winter 2001, the icles may be bad for the cat, the tree itself may be interesting for that reason. We’ll just have to see what will happen.
