Sassy's Story

In 1996, Sandy "Sassy" Sewell was diagnosed with breast cancer during a routine mammogram.  The early detection led to a prompt mastectomy which probably saved her life.  Six and a half years later, Sandy is now considered "cancer-free" and enjoying her retired life in Nevada.

Who is Sassy's Crew?

From L to R: Kirsten Black, Shannon Parsons, Shea Craver, Michele Adona

Shea Craver - Shea is the younger sister of Sandy Sewell.  Shea walked 60 miles from San Jose to San Francisco to complete her first Avon 3-Day in July 2002, and has committed herself to walking 1000 event miles in honor of her sister.

Kirsten Black - Kirsten is the niece of Sandy Sewell.  Kirsten began the family breast cancer walk tradition with her first Avon 3-Day in October 2001 by walking from Lake Lanier to Atlanta.  Kirsten walked the 2002 Atlanta Avon 3-Day, despite having sprained her ankle four days before.

Shannon Parsons - Shannon has been a friend of the family for over ten years.  Shannon had her own personal breast cancer scare with the discovery of pre-cancerous lump of cells.  This will be Shannon's first breast cancer walk.

Michele Adona - Michele met Shea during a Sassys's Crew fundraiser outside of a WalMart.  This is Michele's second time participating in an Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Michele walks in honor of her mother, Carol Preader, who is a three-year survivor.

We dedicate our miles to all of the survivors,

as we keep "Walkin' the Ground

'Til a Cure is Found!
