**Looking Ahead: Must Win Games Start Day One**

You wouldn't expect the first week to be so crucial for any team in any league.  But in the 2006-2007 SHL season every team is gonna be battling hoof and nail to get into the top 6 to make it to the playoffs.  So many teams mathced evenly it is going to be an all out scrap for each and every orginization to get there name onto the Copenhagen Cup.  The Associated Press picked the following winners for the season openers: Scott City to defeat Trach City, Gilmore Gold Jackets to defeat Marktown Petes, Gregville Assassines to defeat Nut Town Natives, Brantown Slammers to defeat Olchowyville Leafs, Adamville Falcons to defeat RumpyVill Roughhosers, Dionland Twisters to defeat Fort Macfie Gangbang.  It appears as if the AP is going with the favorites, however that might not be the safest bet being this is the Saskatchewan Hockey League and anything can happen; anybody can beat anybody on any given night.

Rumor Mill: Trade Talks for All After Draft

Not everybody, let me rephrase that no one is set quite yet with there rosters.  Many teams rumored to be looking to make moves before this season even gets under way are the Marktown Petes, Rumpyvill Roughhosers, Scott City Grrrowl, and many more!.  Petes GM Mark Peterson is ready to get down to business being the youngest current General Manager in the league.  Peterson is presumably working on deals with Scott City, as Grrrowl GM Scott Macfie openly admits he needs a goaltender.  Roughosers GM Trent Rumpel is reported as wanting a couple more snipers in his lineup.  Don't be suprised to see the other two expansion teams swing a deal that being the Goldjackets and the Gangbang.  Another possible team looking to make some acquisitions are last years regular season champs the Dionland Twisters, Dion Berg is one of the best GM's in the league and is always lookin to solify his lineup.

Looking Ahead: What a draft, What a season in store

After perhaprs the most interesting draft in SHL history, the Saskatchewan Hockey League regular season is shaping up to be phenomenal.  All 12 teams look to be evenly matches with there strengths lying in different areas of the game based on the orginazations strategy to win a Copenhagen Cup.  We strongly believe all three expansion teams are going to fit into the mix easily with no struggling in their inaugural seasons.  Many people believe this the 4th SHL season will be the best thus far in the leagues rich history.

Operation Snapshot takes over hype of Trade Deadline
e

Brantown Slammers and Gregville Assassinites General Managers tried to pull a bluff a couple days prior to the SHL trade deadline which we all know about.  However it is sad this took over the headlines of the deadline as there was no big blockbusters and not any actoin at all really compared to the last season (2003-2004) like the Paul Kariya, Mike Modanno deal invovling the Grrrowl and the Roughhosers, as well as the Jokkinen, Hull deal between the Adamville Falcons and the now Brantown Slammers the then Brandontown Allstars.

Marktown, HC -- Marktown Petes General Manager Mark Peterson's phone has been ringing off the hook since the draft was finished Wednesday.  It was rumored he was going to do some wheeling and dealing, and that he did.  In he first trade he sent twenty-two year old  centre Alexander Steen to the Scott CIty Grrrowl in exchange for Nikolai Zherdev the Kiev, Ukraine native.  Zherdev is also a twenty-two year old but plays the left wing.  The only question in this deal is whether Zherdev will play in the SHL this year or not, he was having contract disputes and
could possibly may end up sitting this season out, Peterson is ready to negotiate as much as possible to get him on the ice.

The second trade for the Petes on friday evening invovled veteran Joe Nieuwendyk being shipped to the 2003 Copenhagen Cup Champions

Teams handover pre-rankings;  as the draft looms
Olchowyville, GC --  Tuesday night at 10:00 PM sharp all 12 SHL sent in there pre-draft rankings for the 2006 draft.  What makes the SHL so exciting is the fact you don't know who has the first pick untill 30 minutes before the draft when the draft lottery takes place.  The draft that will happen within the next 72 hours will have its share of suprises, and which player will end up where this year will have alot of impact on how the first round goes. Alot will rely on who went with the expected picks and who goes for a gamble like picking Robero Luongo or Evgeni Malkin earlier on in the draft than expected.  Many people believe Joe Thornton will go first overall, but again this draft is up in the air.  It all depends on who gets which draft pick in which order.
When it comes to the draft being  Adam Olchowy GM of the Olchowyville Leafs who are playing host to this years draft stated "Theres nothing you can do about it, now we made our list based on as many things happening that we could think of so we could still get the best players possible.  I'm not even going to watch the draft as it happens I am just going to take a look at our roster when its all said it done and then get to work."
