SOUTH AFRICAN RAILWAYS STEAM PRESERVATION  ASSOCIATION
Greetings ,

The new year has brought about a few developments, namely the first ever South African Railways Steam Preservation Association UK steam-up.
I've been rallying around, making calls and sending emails to drum up support and get  as many folks as possible who have an interest in SAR steam, to get together for one very special day of the year.
If all goes well, the event will be an annual one which will be worth looking out for and certainly an event not to be missed!
The High-Wycombe Model Engineering Society here in the UK has been kind enough to allow us to host the day on their track and it will take place on
Saturday, 9th July 2005, their website address is: http://www.HWMEC.co.uk which also gives directions on how to get there.
Currently we have 4 SAR locomotives in steam for the day and are hunting down more locomotive attendances.

Currently on the "In Steam" Roster:

Class 15F 4-8-2  - Andrew Giffen - 3.5" Gauge
Class 15F 4-8-2 - Richard Niven - 3.5" Gauge (Ex-SAR Fireman)
Class 15F 4-8-2 - Mike Jones - 3.5" Gauge
Class 15CA 4-8-2 - Mike Jones - 3.5" Gauge

Currently on the "Static Display" List:

Class 25NC 4-8-4 part-built - Jim Nolan - 7 1/4" Gauge
Class 23 4-8-2 - Richard Niven - 5" Gauge
Class 16DA  - 3.5" Gauge

Unconfirmed attendances include an East-African Garratt, an SAR tank locomotive and a highly-detailed Class 23 in 3.5" gauge.
We may also play host to some 32mm Gauge SAR steam - NGG16's and an NG15, two of which may even be coal-fired!  Unfortionately this has yet to be made a reality and we are waiting for confirmation.
The North-British Locomotive Society are interested in attending and promoting the re-building of their full-size Class 25NC that resides with them in the UK and the RSSA are a possibility but I have not heard from them yet in response to my email.
I will be putting up a more comprehensive listing for the days attendances and events in the near future so check back soon.

The Association is looking for members/volunteers in South Africa who will fly our flag and help organise a SARSPA steam-up on the 9th July 2005 as well.
If you're interested in becoming a member and helping us to organise this Annual event in SA to correspond with our UK meet then we would like to hear from you!  You can email myself and the Association  at:

[email protected]

Until the next update...
