| The Third Annual Junior High School Girls Tournament is combined with a referee certification clinic. Thirteen new officials are certified including most of the 16U team. The Spikes host an O.V.A. tournament for the first time and repeat as bronze medallists in the Bugarski Cup. Setters Laura Bennett (16U - Northern Collegiate) and Jacey Nienhuis (14U - Bridgeview) named O.V.A. Award of Excellence recipients. Sarah Buckle (16U - St. Christopher Secondary) and Vanessa Eyre (14U - Bridgeview) named their teams' most valuable player. The Spikes players, coaches, and parents travel to McMaster University in Hamilton to lend our support to the Canadian National Women's Team in their match against reigning European champions from Poland. The charity golf tournament returns to Sawmill Creek with 118 golfers and $8000 raised. Vanessa Eyre (Bridgeview) and Chelsea Ruzik (Rosedale) become the first Spikes' players to attend an Ontario Volleyball Athlete Development Centre going all the way to Kingston for the 4 day training session. The summer skills camps welcome 93 athletes for a week of fun and training. Season 7 begins and the club expands to 4 teams: 13U, 14U, 15U, and 17U. New coaches Hope and Janet Borody join the club. The 15U team wins a silver medal at the McGregor Cup. The Spikes host the 13U Bugarski Cup at St. Christopher Secondary School. The 13U team wins a bronze medal at the Ontario Championships. The 17U team places 4th at the Ontario Championships. The 14U and 15U teams place 6th at their Ontario Championships. Libero Victoria Mislan (15U - St. Christopher), setter Julie MacQueen (14U - Hanna Memorial), and middle Veronica Carpani (13U - Errol Village) are named O.V.A. Award of Excellence recipients Setters Laura Bennett (17U - Northern Collegiate), Tiffany Allen (15U - St. Christopher), Emily Grieve (13U - Gregory A. Hogan) and left side Jacey Nienhuis (14U - Bridgeview) are named their teams Most Valuable Players. Sarah Buckle and Victoria Mislan are presented with embroidered blankets commerarating their 100th match played with the Spikes. A group of Spikes players, coaches, and parents travel to London to support our Canadian National Men's Team in their World League match against Finland. Julie MacQueen (Hanna Memorial) and Kendra Perdeaux (Gregory A. Hogan) attend the Ontario Volleyball Athlete Development Centre in Kingston. Spikes head coach Jeff Laucke also participates as a court coach. Jeff's tournament team posts a record of 7 - 2 - 1. 18U Girls' National Team Challenge Cup takes place in London hosted by the O.V.A. Jeff volunteers as a scorekeeper for the tournament. The final season for the Sarnia Spikes begins with only the18U team in operation. Ryley Kornelsen, Katherine Ganter and Danielle Coker play in their 100th match in a Spikes uniform at the OVA season opening Provincial Cup. Ashley Vandervies plays in her 100th match at the 19U Open in Scarborough. Courtney Thachuk plays in her 100th match to start the 18U Ontario Championships at RIM Park in Waterloo, The 18U team, comprised of left side Brittany Bell, setter Laura Bennett, middle Ryley Kornelsen, middle Courtney Thachuk, right side Ashley Vandervies, libero Chelsea Wheeler, and led by captain Sarah Buckle, left side, become the first Lambton County youth team to participate in the National Championships. Held in Ottawa, the team finishes ninth in Tier 1 of Division 3. |
