| The Spikes program is started with a 20 & under girls' team. Twelve players from four Lambton County High Schools are selected for the team. The Spikes compete in their first sanctioned O.V.A. tournament. The Spikes compete in their first provincial championships. Left side Alaina Pembleton (North Lambton Secondary School) named first Spikes' O.V.A. Award of Excellence recipient. Tryouts for 20 & under and 16 & under teams are held. Over forty girls tryout out for the ten available spots on each team. Five of Lambton County's eight high schools are represented in the final selection. Coach Scott Elliott (Sargeant - Canadian Armed Forces) returns from serving as part of the peace-keeping forces in Afganistan. 20 & under team wins consolation title at the Tier II provincial championships. Middle Marlee Morden (16 & under - St.Christopher Secondary School) and right side Shelley Worsley (20 & under - Lambton Central Collegiate) are named Award of Excellence recipients. Setter Wendy Depooter (16 & under - Northern Collegiate) and middle Shannon O'Hagan (20 & under - St.Patrick's High School) are named Most Valuable Players. First summer skills camp held for elementary school students. Sixty-one athletes from Lambton County attend one of four sessions. Twenty-three girls try out for the 10 positions on the 16 & under team. Jana Savoie becomes the first elementary school athlete to play on a Spikes team. Five of Lambton County's eight high schools are represented on the team. The 16 & under team becomes the first Spikes team to advance to a medal round in O.V.A. competition eventually finishing fifth in the tournament. 16 & under team is seeded #3 at the Tier IV (of V) provincial championships. They lose 15-11 in the third set to gold medallists Niagara in the quarter-finals. The set won by the Spikes is the only one that Niagara lost at the tournament. Libero Alida Campbell (North Lambton Secondary) named O.V.A. Award of Excellence recipient. Left side Lyndsay Dolbear (St. Patrick's) named team's most valuable player. The Spikes Summer Skills camp is offered for the second year with a new session designed especially for grade eight students entering high school. Over 70 athletes participate. Season Four begins with 16U and 18U teams. Five of Lambton County's seven high schools are represented. The Spikes host their first Junior High School Girls Invitational Tournament. Twelve teams attens from Southwestern Ontario. Medallist teams are Annandale Gemini (Tillsonburg) - Gold, Lambton Central Centennial (Petrolia) - Silver, A.B. Lucas (London) - Bronze. The 16U's again lose to the eventual gold medallists in the quarter-finals at the provincial championships. 16U captain Britni Robbins joins the 18U team for their championships. The 18U's finish 13th in Tier II. Middle Britni Robbins (16U - St.Clair Secondary) and Libero Alida Campbell (18U - North Lambton Secondary) named O.V.A. Award of Excellence recipients. Cassey Ross (16U - St. Clair Secondary) and Lyndsay Dolbear (18U - St. Patrick's High School) named their teams' most valuable player. Spikes coach Jeff Laucke is selected to assist at the Ontario Volleyball Athlete Development Centre in Waterloo. The summer skills camps attracts 70 athletes for two sessions. Season Five begins with 12U and 15U teams. The second annual Junior Girls Invitational is held. Teams attend from Sarnia, London, Windsor and Hamilton. 15U Team wins the club's (and Lambton County's) first ever O.V.A. medal taking bronze in the Bugarski Cup. Middle Ryley Kornelsen (15U - Northern Collegiate) and Setter Jacey Nienhuis (12U - Bridgeview Public School) named O.V.A. Award of Excellence recipients. Courtney Thachuk (15U - Northern Collegiate) and Valerie Spano (12U - Gregory A. Hogan Elementary) named their teams' most valuable player. Coach Jeff Laucke returns to assist at the Ontario Volleyball Athlete Development Centre in Waterloo. A charity golf tournament partnership with The Inn of the Good Shepherd Food Bank is formed. Sawmill Creek Golf Resort & Spa hosts 76 golfers and $5800 is raised. The summer skills camp attracts 75 athletes including our first ever high school session. Season Six begins with 14U and 16U teams in new uniforms. Coach Wil Martin joins the club. |
