| Although high school is over, it certainly has not been forgotten! This time three years ago, I was a senior at Summers County High School in Hinton, West Virginia. I have so many fun memories of high school! I was in the National Honor Society, Hi-Y, Bible Club, president of Key Club (the high school version of Circle K which I am now involved in), and I was co-valedictorian of my class. Click here for graduation pictures. Yeah Class of 1999!!! I had some great friends there, and lots of pictures from my years in high school. Click here to see my senior prom pictures and here to see the pictures from my junior prom. Here are pictures from the Christmas dances I went to in my junior and senior years. Click here to see Mr. and Miss Bobcat pictures. I also took several amazing trips. In March of my junior year I went to New York City and in March of my senior year I went to Toronto, Canada. Both trips were with the French club and Hi-Y group. They were awesome and I have some great pictures from the trips. Click here for group pictures from the NYC trip my junior year. Click here for pictures of the Canada trip from my senior year. However, the best trip ever was my senior trip in May of '99. We went on a cruise to the Bahamas! It was for three days on the Carnival fun ship Fantasy and we stopped in Nassau. I have some incredible pictures of this too. Click here to see the great cruise pics. It all went by so quickly though, and before I knew it graduation was over and my last summer before college had come and gone. During the summer of 1999, I worked at the elementary school at a summer program for underprivileged children, that focused on reading, creativity, and nutrition. It was tiring, but lots of fun. It was called Energy Express and run by Americorps, the national service group. We were in charge of about 40 kids for 6 weeks. The five mentors (myself included), along with our VISTA and site coordinator had to go through the training session and become Americorps members before the program began. My high school was relatively small and Hinton is in a rural area near Beckley and Bluefield, WV. (Okay, if you're not from WV try to control your jokes and opinions! Believe me, since I've been at The Wash I have heard them all!) I admit that I was not thrilled with living in WV when I first moved there about 6 years ago, but I just had to get used to it. The little area where I lived was actually called Nimitz and Jumping Branch! (Please try not to laugh too loudly.) There are also some joke names for "Jumping Branch", such as- "Leaping Twig" and one that was just created- "Skipping Stick"! Think about it for a while and you'll see the humor. :) I think that my favorite thing about WV is my church there- Bluestone Baptist Church. I love it. It is wonderful, and I really miss it now that I am away from home. Getting to go back to my church is probably the best thing about breaks. I have many great friends that I met at church. Click here to see pictures of them. My friends Jeannie and Beth and I have created some great quotes, click here to visit the quote page to read them below the Wash quotes. I moved to WV from Chesapeake, Virginia - an incredible place near Norfolk and Virginia Beach where I spent my elementary and middle school years. It is a wonderful, growing city with many opportunities available and terrific school systems- especially in the Great Bridge area where I lived. I miss being there, but I don't regret leaving because then I never could have met the people or had the experiences I had in West Virginia. Before Chesapeake I lived in Salem, Virginia (near Roanoke, VA), during pre-school and kindergarten. It was also a wonderful place, although I don't remember as much about it. And even before Salem...I was born in Danville, Virginia. I really don't remember living there, but it is a great place. |
