| �Well, she asked me if we would take care of the kids should anything happen to her.�
�What do you mean take care of?� �Well, they would come live with us, and we would be the ones to raise them.� �What did you tell her?� �I told her I was going to have to talk to you about it first.� �If we take them in, would you still want to start our own family?� �Oh Sully�of course I do. I can�t think of anything else I�d rather do.� Sully lifted her chin and placed a gentle kiss on her lips. Michaela grabbed the nape of his neck and pulled him closer to her deepening the kiss. Her lips moved rhythmically over his. He stood up bringing Michaela with him. Michaela gave him that special look she saved just for him. He leaned close to her and whispered, �I do believe I have a promise to keep.� Michaela was sound asleep in Sully�s warm and protective embrace. She woke up when she felt a chill and looked up at her wonderful husband and couldn�t help but smile. She still couldn�t believe that she had been so lucky to end up with him. It was as if her dream man had become reality. She couldn�t wait to start a family with him, and she couldn�t believe that he had doubted that even if it was for just a minute. Her thoughts then turned to Charlotte, and their conversation from earlier. After she thought about it for a while she drifted off to sleep only to be haunted by her dreams. �Dr. Mike you gotta come quick!� Michaela was talking to the reverend and turned around when she heard her name. She saw the worried look in the little boys� eyes and knew she had to follow him. He led her to one of the rooms in the boarding house. Michaela walked in and saw a middle-aged woman lying on a bed covered with sweat. She rushed over to her side and asked her what had happened. �A rattlesnake bit her.� She looked up and saw a young man with a worried look in his eyes. �Is she going to be alright?� Michaela looked at the woman again and shook her head. �I�m afraid there�s nothing I can do. The poison seems to be spreading very rapidly.� She leaned in closer to hear her heartbeat and the woman began to whisper. �Dr. Mike�Will you promise me something?� Michaela looked in her eyes and nodded. She knew this was probably going to be her last wish. �Will you promise me you�ll look after my young ones when I go?� Michaela didn�t want to deny her dying wish so she agreed not knowing what she was getting herself into. She sat up in bed gasping for air. She had been in Sully�s arms so when she sat up he was awakened. �What�s wrong Michaela?� �Oh Sully something bad is going to happen I can just feel it.� �What do you mean?� �I had a dream that something bad was going to happen.� Sully looked at her more carefully and saw that she was covered in sweat and was shaking. He pulled her into his embrace and rocked her back and forth gently. �Michaela calm down. Everything will be alright, you�ll see.� �What if it isn�t?� �What if something has gone wrong?� �Well, if something has gone wrong we will face it together.� Sully kept rocking Michaela as he stroked her hair. Her breathing became relaxed and he began to hum to her. As he continued to hum he felt Michaela's body go limp and he knew she was asleep, and it didn't take long before he fell back to sleep. |
