| It had been a couple of months since Michaela had learned about what had happened between Sully and Catherine. They had begun to speak to each other again, but every once in a while Michaela would remember what had happened and she felt like her heart was breaking all over again. Things werent quite how they used to be, but at least they were friends again. Michaela didnt want to admit it to herself but she really missed Sully. She was glad that they were still able to be friends, but she missed the way things used to be. However, she knew that she had to stay strong because it had been her decision. Sully was hoping that things would go back to the way they used to be. He didnt really know how much he loved Michaela until he had lost her. He missed her so much. He missed holding her in his arms and kissing those soft lips. There had been so many times when he just wanted to take her in his arms and tell her how much he loved her, but then something always made him stop. He didnt want to run the risk of losing her all together. One day, the reverend showed up with a wagon full of orphans. He had taken on the responsibility of helping them find good homes. Michaela admired him for trying to help all of those children, and she offered to help in any way she could. The reverend was grateful for her generosity. The task of finding the children a good home in Colorado Springs was not an easy one. And Michaela having a soft spot for children in her heart offered to let them all stay in her home. She had become so wrapped up in helping those children out, that she hardly had any time for her own children. Colleen and Brian were feeling neglected, and had even asked Matthew if they could live with him after he had gotten married. One day the Reverend had offered to take the children on a picnic and to go swimming. Michaela had asked Colleen and Brian to join them, but the last thing they wanted to do was spend any more time with them. Michaela left saying that theyd be back before supper. Suppertime came, and there was still no sign of them. The children were beginning to get worried, and when they heard someone outside they thought it would be them. When Matthew opened the door he saw Sully. Sully noticed the expression on their faces and began to ask them what was wrong. As the children were telling him they heard a wagon approach. Matthew and Sully opened the door and all the orphans came running in. However, the both of them stayed at the door to see what Michaela and the Reverend were doing. They both seemed to be getting really friendly towards each other, and that broke Sullys heart. Was he actually going to lose Michaela forever? He tried to shake that thought out of his head, but was shocked with what he saw next. Michaela and the Reverend were kissing. Now he knew how Michaela felt when she found out about Catherine. Except he wasnt hearing about it, he was actually seeing it happen. The next day, there was a rumor in town that the reverend had proposed to Michaela so they could adopt all of the orphans. As soon as Sully heard he went to the clinic to see if it was true. He couldnt bare the thought of Michaela being with another man. Unfortunately, the conversation didnt turn out the way he had expected it to. Instead of her admitting that she didnt want to marry the reverend, she told him it was none of his business what she did with her life. Sully was so hurt and angry that he just decided to leave and back off. The things Michaela had told him had hurt him, he never thought that anything could possibly hurt that bad. He felt like someone had just ripped his heart out. He took one last look at the clinic and decided that he had to get away from there. He didnt know where he was going; all he knew was that he had to get away from there. He walked through the meadow and he passed the same spot where Michaela had told him she couldnt be with him anymore. Then flashes of the night before began to play in his head. He tried to get rid of it, but no matter what that scene kept playing over in his head. Every time that happened his heart would break all over again. He couldnt stand the thought of another mans lips on hers. Now he truly knew how Michaela had felt. He reached his lean to and sat down to write everything that was on his mind. I can't keep picturing you with him. And it hurts so badly. I think about it over and over again, replay it over and over again. I just cant shake it. What happened to that look in your eyes. The one you had before you told me you couldnt be with me. It's a shame that we got to spend our time being mad about the same things. But I think youre leaving and I just dont know what else to do to show you that my heart is yours. I remember the day you left, remember the last breath you took in my arms. ~ ~ ~ ~ A couple of days had passed and Michaela was still involved with the orphans. She was so busy with them that she hadnt noticed the way Colleen and Brian had been acting, or the fact that Sully hadnt been around the last couple of days. It wasnt until Matthew told her how the way she had been acting was affecting everybody that she opened her eyes. That night, after all the children were in bed, Michaela decided to sit outside and write in her diary. She looked up at the night sky and remembered the nights she sat on that same step and looked at the night sky with Sully. She felt a single tear fall as she remembered their first kiss. She wiped the tear from her eye and she began to write on her diary. Ever since the day you went away and left me lonely and cold. My life just hasnt been the same. When I looked into your eyes the moment that I let you go I just broke down. If I ever get the chance to be with you again I would sacrifice everything. The feeling that I feel within is one that no other man would ever make me feel. Its nice to smile when I hear youve been speaking of me, but Id rather have you here with me, right next to me. I miss the way you hold me tight. I have to let you know I feel so weak without your touch. Continue |
