Old-Fashioned Ginger Cookies
a.k.a "Shiny Cookies"

1 cup sugar
3/4 cup butter or margarine
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon each of ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt

Cream the sugar and butter.  Add molasses and egg and beat well.  Add dry ingredients.
Roll into small balls and dip the tops into sugar (that's what makes them shiny!).  Place on
lightly greased cookie sheet.  Bake in 350 to 375 degrees oven for 10 to 12 minutes.
Oatmeal Cinnamon Drops

1 cup margarine
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tablespoon molasses
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups quick oats
2/3 cup ground raisins
1 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Cream margarine and sugar.  Add eggs, molasses, and vanilla.  Combine flour, cinnamon,
and baking soda.  Gradually add creamed mixture.  Stir in oats, raisins, nuts, and
chocolate chips.  Drop by spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake 12 minutes at
350 degrees or until light brown.  Makes 8 dozen.
Sugar Cookies

1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 cup soft margarine or butter
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar

Mix powdered sugar, butter, egg, vanilla, and almond extract.  Stir in remaining ingredients.
Cover and regrigerate at least 2 hours.  Heat oven to 375 degrees.  Divide
dough into halves.  Roll each half 3/16" thick on lightly floured cloth-covered board.  Cut
into shapes.  Sprinkle sugar on top or leave plain.  Place on lightly greased cookie
sheet.  Bake until edges are light brown, 7 to 8 minutes.  Frost if desired.
Walnut Frosties

2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla

Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt.  Combine remaining ingredients, then mix with dry
ingredients.  Shape into balls and make a depression in each.  Put 1 teaspoon topping in
each depression.  Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes.  Makes 48 balls.

Topping:
1 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup sour cream
