This tale came from Tom (Cadle) Palmer in Miami who also sent the  research  about Jane >

A 19th Century Soldiers Tale

A young man sailed from Australia to England where he was to collect an inheritance. Along the way he joined the Army to fight the Boers. He  come across Jane Cadle, being taken to a concentration camp, went AWOL taking Jane and disappeared into the veldt

Henrique Gomez Binfiel GOLDWYER was born 1860 in Perth, Western Australia (WA BDM Reg No 1860/5350 Perth - www.justice.wa.gov.au) and died after 1918.
Jane was listed as wife on her death notice - i.e. husband was still alive.

Henry and his brother William left Australia approx 1884/1885 to collect an inheritance in England (William had come of age and was eligible to receive the moneys due that had already been dispensed to his older brother and sister).  On the return journey to Australia something happened and they 'Took the Kings Shilling' and joined the British Army to fight the Boers.

William was injured in the foot and repatriated back to Australia and died in 1949 (having never married or had children)
Henry disappeared.  The family oral history is that he saw a Boer women being sent to a concentration camp and spirited her away and deserted the Army.
His ancestors have remained in South Africa.

Janes death notice
(obtained from South African Public Records)
show that her husband was Henry GOLDWYER.
Her parents were
William and Elizabeth CADLE from Kimberley.

Jane died aged 39yrs and 10months on 19th October 1918
at Boksburg Hospital, Boksburg
(her birth date is therefore approx Oct 1879).
Her residence at that time was 65 Third St, Boksburg North and she was married to Henry G B GOLDWYER at St Augustines, Kimberley.
