Princesse de Provence Day 4
Tournon
This is the masthead, Princesse de Provence.
Rocky soil, you know the grapes they have to suffer no?
A quick snapshot of Tournon as we head off on our excursion. The Vivarais railway which took us through the Ardeche region along the Doux river. The train was a steam engine. Once it got over the hill it had to fill up with more water.
Our boat was full of a group of German train enthusiest so I figure this was a highlight for them.  It was our anniversary and the countryside was beautiful. Of course, as with everything in France, it reminded me of home. Northern Californias Russian river by Squaw rock.
The rocks in the forground are the remains of a Roman road
The Doux
This is an aquaduct built by German prisoners of WW1
The train was very cute. Narrow gauge
This is one of the towers in Tournon.
In the background you can see another of the towers that made up the castle walls.
It was Alans Birthday and our Anniversary
Here I am drinking Kir with Jill
This was our tour guide, Jim took this picture...I was busy drinking.
George, the boats musician, came along with his accordian
First class car
The train was very important. It delivered mail, dairy, wine, meats, and students back and forth.
This dog rubbed along every car in the area. He was so funny walking and leaning up agaisnt the cars.
After the train ride we rode down the hill in a bus. Here we had a good view of the aquaduct.
You can see the train track below.
View of lock from our cabin.
Up on deck, the locks were fascinating like elevators full of water. The rhone river had 12 locks that we went through.
Dinner July 18th was quite exciting. Alans Birthday cake was delivered, everyone was laughing and singing and as you can see he hated every second of it.
After Alans cake was delivered they marched around the dinning room lead by George on his accordian once again and this time they stopped at our table.
Here I am toasting to Jim with champagne notice the writing on the cake? We joked about our "anniverary" cake for days.
This is Olaf our Maitre de. He gave us a card from the Peter Deilman company. He was a smooth one and all the ladies loved it when he gave them any attention. He loves his job.
What is this? the Golden Gate bridge in France? We sat up top and watched the sunset and the beautiful countryside.
Here we are with capitan Jean Louis Bersnard
Here we are with Alan and Jill having some
Champagne before dinner... but we had a mishap
Divorced by the photographer!
But a little photoshop can fix that!
These next pictures were from Day2 The first Formal night, the Captins dinner
Jim is holding my glass not two fisting it
This bridge was built in 1583
The table nearest us all signed a card for our anniversary. Patsy and her husband gave us a ottle of Champagne Very sweet.
