Support for Parents with Questions & Concerns About
Listening, Attention and Sensory Integration Problems
My daughter Sarah had a long struggle during her Kindergarten year. Her teacher said "Sarah is bright, but I can't get her to "zoom in" and focus on what's going on." It fluctuated. Sometimes she complained that Sarah seemed "spacey" all day, and needed directions repeated three or four times. At other times, Sarah was incredibly focused, especially if something interested her.
Some of our children have been diagnosed with something like Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD), Sensory Integration Disorder (SID), or an "autism spectrum disorder." Some of our kids have no identified disability, but fit some of the characteristics associated with these diagnoses. Some of our children don't seem to fit into any niche.
The focus of this site is not on diagnoses (though questions about these will be addressed). Our purpose is to explore practical ways to understand what our children need, help them succeed, and support each other.
