Helpful Links for Concerned Parents

This list includes a few general parenting resources. It is also comprised of resources for parents of "spirited" kids, and information on auditory processing problems, sensory integration issues, and "autism spectrum" diagnoses. There is much overlap among these areas. The separate boxes in which we tend to sort children's developmental differences, and the labels that go with them, are not always illuminating or useful. Nonetheless learning what is known about these areas, and what interventions can help children, can be tremendously helpful. It has helped me better understand my daughter's challenges, devise strategies to help her, and decide what types of professional help are warranted.

Help for Parents of "Spirited" Kids

Some children are born with temperaments that challenge parents. Sometimes, people are appalled at our kids' "spirited" behavior, and suggest that we need to discipline them more effectively. Not true. Our kids may be very sensitive, intense, persistent, seem to march to the beat of their own drummer. These qualities hold lots of amazing potential, but sometimes - as parents - we need help coping.
