JETTE

She is a Neapolitan
Mastiff

10 weeks old
Meeting Nishka,
with Dylan
18 June 2006
UPDATE: June 2006

Hi all.  Today we went to Cheviot, and picked up Jette, the newest addition to our family.  She is a purebred NEAPOLITAN MASTIFF, 10 weeks old.  Her kennel name is
Guardiano Speranza, which means HOPE in Italian.  We named her Jette, which is BLACK in Latin. The breeder, who lived in Rangiora, drove up to Cheviot to meet us, which was really nice of her.  When she opened the travel cage, poor Jette had been sick, she didn't look very happy.  After a few minutes and a clean up, she warmed to us.  We headed off home, and it wasn't till we were 1/2 hour from home, and she was sick again, just missing Dylan (who had begged to sit next to her - funny that, he couldn't believe yesterday that I wanted something so ugly!).

Nishka liked her straight away (something we were expecting would take some time).  I daresay there will be some moments between them, but it is good they are tolerant so quickly.

We stopped in at the vets' on the way home to get some worming tablets, and she is 9.9kg (although I daresay she would have been a little heavier if she hadn't been car sick!), and her adult weight will be somewhere in the vacinity of 50-70kg.  Already, she has bigger paws than Nishka, and although only about a third of Nishka's weight, she is about half her height!

Gavin is busy busy with the block in Kekerengu, and spent a week there, a week in Invercargill (seeing his sister Lynette, who was very ill), then today after we drove to and from Cheviot to pick up Jette, packed his suitcase and headed back down to Kekerengu for another 3-5 days.  No rest for the wicked some would say.  He thrives on being busy and wouldn't have it any other way.  When he's home, it means he's even busier catching up on work around the other blocks we manage / work on.

Dylan is doing okay at school, he just spent a night at the local marae (but didn't really enjoy it).  He really likes school, but isn't too quick to admit it!  He's been very helpful with Gavin away (although the bribe of extra pocket money helps on occassion).

I've lost heaps of inches, and a few kilos (not so many kilos, because I have gained weight in muscle).  Unfortunately my thighs haven't caught onto the slimming thing like the rest of the body, so I haven't been able to buy much in the way of a new wardrobe - I will get there.  I'm really enjoying working out still, my trainer changed my routine last week, and a lot of the excercises I do at the gym are with free-weights, so I can do these at home on rainy days when I can't bike to the gym.

We have been fortunate enough that the cold blast that hit the South Island didn't come up our way, but it has certainly been cold here, and stormy too.  We had a tree come over in the wind last Sunday.

Best off, lots to do. Take care,

SARAH, GAVIN, DYLAN, NISHKA, JETTE, "BIRD" & THE GIRLS

yes, I still haven't named the bird!
