Atlantic Ocean Plants

By Dawn Kiser

Sea Grass in the Atlantic Ocean
Yes the Atlantic Ocean has grass. This grass is correctly called Sea Grass. There are over 45 known varieties of this plant. One acre of sea grass can provide a safe habitat to as many as 40 thousand fish. This is a plant that scientist refer to as ecosystem engineers because they slow down water currents. This leads to an increase of sedimentation, thus these important plants partially create their own habitat.

Uses
Sea grass can be harvested and used to fertilize sandy soil. It is also used in furniture. It can be woven to create some beautiful chairs, baskets, and other amazing pieces.
