| At the time I was told "don't tell anyone this". This was back in 1991, I think. I was in the studio painting maps of The Gulf in oil on polythene. I was playing a Walker Brothers 'Greatest Hits' cassette on my black ITT. Anya Gallachio heard the music and asked if this was Scott Walker singing. She said she hadn't heard his music before. She told me in confidence that Mr Engel was studying fine art at Byam Shaw college and nobody was supposed to know it was really him. But he looked like a star. I asked if he wore sunglasses. She said he did when it was sunny. I asked if he was a good recluse. She said that he was. She told me not to tell anyone. I could have written to the NME. I told some friends. Some of them were impressed. |
