BRUTE FORCE
My brother sent Brute's first album to me in Japan.
'Confections Of Love' (Columbia, 1967) is one of the greatest pop records ever made
Every time I play it it is brilliant.
There's a song called 'Sit On A Sandwich' which is as addictive as crack
Eveyone I play it to demands a copy
'No Olympian Heights' is a dazzling piece of pop music
The chorus of 'Jim's Garage' would make a cryogenically-frozen head bob with infant glee
His second album is a live recording of mostly improvised songs
Made up on the spot in front of what sounds like a very stoned audience
They are probably just very happy to be in his company
I have seen a picture of him in Alaska meeting eskimo kids
Don't remember the story behind that
But it was good, like all Brute Force stories
His real name is Stephen Friedland
And he wrote songs on the Brill Building assembly line
Great songs like 'Nobody Knows What's Going On In My Mind But Me'
Which The Chiffons recorded, amongst others
And 'There's a Fire Burning In The Fireplace' for The Cyrkle
Pretty and filthy
He's still performing
I really hope he plays in Japan
I don't think it's too late for 'Confections Of Love' to be a massive hit
Everybody
And I mean
everybody
Should own this record

i look at you, you look at me
