Conductors



Norman Dea, Conductor
Norman Dea is the newly appointed conductor of the San Ramon Symphonic Band. He serves as only the second conductor in the group’s distinguished twenty-year history. For the past twenty-five years, he has also been the Director of Bands at Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek. Well versed in the repertoire and pedagogy for wind band, Norm is highly regarded as an honor band conductor, adjudicator, clinician, and consultant for various music festivals in California. He has been honored many times for his contributions to the music education community both locally and statewide. Very active in promoting the mission of music education, He serves as the elected Vice President of CMEA-The California Association for Music Education. Norm is a 1981 graduate of San Francisco State University.

Charles Taber, Conductor Emeritus
Chuck is a graduate of San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Instrumental Music. He holds a Master's Degree in Conducting from San Jose State University. Chuck was a member of the United Nations Band in Seoul, Korea during his years in the service. Chuck taught instrumental music for eight years at the Los Altos High School. He has directed the band since its inception in 1987.

David Turner, Guest Conductor
David is a graduate of Southern Methodist University and has a Master's Degree in Music Education from California State Hayward. David taught in the Richmond School District, San Ramon Valley Unified School District, at the Athenian School and on the Kwjalein Island. David has previously conducted the San Ramon Jazz Band. He currently is a financial consultant.

Harry Hanover, Guest Conductor
Harry holds a Bachelors and a Master's Degree in Music from Northwestern University. He taught music in Wisconsin for a year and in Oakland for four years before retiring after 30 years in San Leandro in music and school administration. Harry currently plays in several bands in the country as well as the local Castro Valley Community Band and the Hayward Municipal Band.
