Teacher Opinions and Experiences:scroll down
Interlang was once an independent chain but is now a part of the omnipresent English Time Kultur chain.  I never worked there, nut my room-mate and friend did, at the Kadikoy branch.  However, that was under the old ownership.  From what I have been able to gather, the school is set up, for the most part, like ET is.  Housing may be provided, in a lojman-type building, but this may be temporary until the teacher is able to get out on their own.  Housing support is provided with ET, so I assume that it is also with Interlang.

"It used to have a good reputation and then it was bought by ET.  Now it is hourly pay, DOS with no degree, sackings, evictions, no work permits,  no insurance and no chance of surviving a year so no bonus."

"Interlang use dot be one of the top three schools. Now I am not sure.  In the past year I know of two people who have worked there.  One was a success and enjoyed it.  The other hated it and left.  There are two sides to every school."

"It used to have a good reputation and then the owner ran it into the ground, and THEN it was bought by ET.  The teachers hadn't been paid in a long tim and it is my understanding that they were paid when ET took over."

"Liz at Interlang can be prickly but she definately looks out for her teachers and overall things run pretty well."

"The new Interlang contract was been changed in the sense that teachers get an hourly rate according to the band that they fall into (experience criteria) plus bonuses (performance and professionalism criteria.) And they are amongst the few schools in Istanbul which provide accommodation (good point - ed)."

"Interlang teachers were expected to be social prostitutes and spend break times with students. (this is common in other places as well, though I wouldn't call it prostitution - ed)

"... the Branch Managers at Besiktas (Leyla) and Bakirkoy (Nilufer) are rude, two-faced and vindictive, not to mention hopelesly incompetent. Nilufer is personally responsible for the mass exodus from Bakirkoy..."

"Even though I hate Interlang for not paying me, they were at one time a high-quality school - the owne did have a background in education and I think at one point he was seroius about high-quality English teaching...:"

"The only complaint that I have heard (recently - May 2006 - ed) is the low hourly rate. But people are willing to work for that much so it can't be that bad."  M
