Interlang Teacher Opinions Continued
I try to keep this as current as possible, posting comments when I find them that may be useful here. - ed

NOVEMBER 2006

There has been some dish on Interlang on ESLCAFE as of late.  Nothing too complimentary, but I will add the comments in here for you to judge for yourself. - ed
"Have heard through the grapevice that the Int. Taks. Manager is leaving to do his army service.  No one is sorry to see him go.  Apparently a very inept guy, arrogant, and did nothing to support or motivate teachers.

Not a teacher who finished their contract this year has bothered to re-sign..."

"Sorry to be a wet blanket, but definately do not believe the promises from Interlang.  The DOS will say what it takes to get you there and then doesn't support you .  He's too busy being a narcissist.  I have never heard the phrase 'It's not my job' used so much."

"Things change very quickly, don't they?  At the end of September/beginning of October there was an influx of teachers.  No one could understand why, as the season would pick up after the Ramazan Bayram.

Anyway, perhaps because one or two teachers skipped out on them, the teachers in Taksim have had more than enough hours.  Some are easaily working in excess of 40 hours a week."

(Editor's note: this is a somewhat confusing post.  The writer was trying to say that there was a hiring spree in Sept/Oct, resulting in too many teachers for the present student population.   Because of this overkill, the teachers realized they would not get the hours and began to look elsewhere, and, subsequently pulled 'runners'.  The result was that the teachers who remained really had no choice but to take on all of their loads.  I also think he was trying to say that if the teachers had just been patient enough, enrollment normally picks up after the Bayram...)

"Talked to some folks at Interlang.   Seems the place is quite disorganized.  HIgh turn over (sic) of Turkish staff.  The new DOS, David, seems like a decent sort, however, he has to deal with a logistical mess."

"I work at Interlang's Taksim branch.

1. Well, the pay stinks, but at least I can let my students go 15 minutes early if I want and no one is going to put me on some lame "probation" or "write me up" or anything.

2.  The school is filthy and there is fresh rat poop available in the teacher's lounge daily.

3.  Resources?  Hmmm, I wonder what those are?

4.  Did you say that my students STILL don't have their books ?! Great!

5.  Yeah!  It's payday! Ummm, where is the manager?  Oh, I see, he won't be back until 7:00p.m.  Okay, I guess it can wait until then, wait a second, I'm teaching my classes at 7.  I wonder if he'll still be there at 10  when I am finished.. I guess I'll just come back tomorrow.

6.  I am not complaining, just keeping ot myself here, yup, not a word.  I'll just be quietly working on my Turkish over here."
