"Hello everyone, I am looking for some serious suggestions. I was wondering? How have you handled job searches and approaching employers? How did you write your cover letters... did you mention your disability or did you sit yourself down with the employer to explain Moebius? Forward this email to any ADULT Moebians. Please help. Thanks a lot my e-Moebians pal. Sincerely, Ann M. Plasway [email protected]
(1) "Hey there from the UK! I've recently ended a short term contract, so I'm now looking for work. Personally I'm not sure about putting my disability down as a matter of course. Would you tell people your ethnic background? I think not. I've sent many letters and only had two interviews, none of which worked out well. One of the biggest problems I percieve is the one of filling in application forms. I find it hard to write and I see this as a barrier to filling in an application form. I'd rather just send them a resume. Much easier anyway. We have this new act that stops discrimination but I'm not really sure how to use it for my best advantage. Best wishes Alex [email protected]
some responses...
(2)Hello, I send my cover letter and resume and let my experience and talent say it all. I have never discussed my Moebius with an employer. The only time it ever came up was when an employer asked if had allergies or something (he was obviously fishing for info) and would that cause me to be out of work. I simply said "no". Obviously, depending on your difficulities would depend on how much you need to share. If it will not hinder your work...it should not be an issue. I am currently the Community Relations Associate at a hospital. Having Moebius has never stopped my from going after what I want. I would be happy to share my cover letter and/or resume with anyone that is interested. Hey...I've done enough job searches to share some advice. I wish you all well in pursuing your dreams. NEVER give up... Take care, Elisa Schumacher [email protected]
