| (3)Hi everyone greetings from Ireland. First of all I would like to say to Alex that I sympathise with you because I know what you are going through. Its is very diffcult for people like us to find work. I mean we may be able to fill in the form but its actually getting there and meeting the person face to face which I find the battle. On my first two interviews I was going for part time work. I answered all the questions and I more or less avoided the whole subject of Moebius. Anyway I didnt get the jobs and I felt like I was being taken at face value. In the second interview the employer actually admitted that it was down to my appearance that he couldnt hire me. He said despite having all the skills needed he said it wouldnt be fair on the other members of staff. I was so devestated that I left the interview and when I got outside I had tears strolling down my face. I then realised that the best way to handle it is to go into the interview and explain it. I know its not fair and we shouldnt have to do it but I feel its the best thing to do. I think so because its very obvious and its the first the interviewer looks at is our face. So, now I just explain it, I tell then briefly what it is and how I got it. And the most important thing to do is make it clear to them that this in no way affects your ability to do the job and also that you are not an idiot and can handle yourself in a work situation. In the last interview I attended it was for Clerical worker in a hospital in Dublin. I explained all of this and showed them I was the man for the job. That afternoon I was offered the job. I hope this helps you guys that are out there looking for work and are unsure how to handle the situation concerning Moebius. My philosophy is you are what you are, and that WE are just as good as anyone else. Alex I hope you find work soon. Good luck with that man and take care. Take Care Everybody Keith Browne (Dublin. | (4) I have never mentioned Moebius in either a cover letter or application. My feeling is that you should only mention things that would either help or impede your ability to do the job. In 99% of the jobs that exist out there, Moebius should do neither. Of course, just as in the case of not mentioning your race or your age, an interviewer is going to notice. And I know quite well that there are jobs I didn't get simply because of the Moebius. My philosophy is, however, that a company that would deny me employment for such a reason is not a company I would care to work for anyway. --Rand [email protected] |
