A Very Proud Day
In 1997 at the age of 32, I decided that come hell or high water I was going to do something with my life. I started enquiring about university courses and job prospects where I live. My goal was to achieve entry into university and finish a degree by the time i turned 40.

I sat an adult entry test, put in my preferences to SATAC and started worrying, was I good enough, would I pass, what would I do if I didn't.

In January/Febuary 1998 the offers were advertised in the local rag and I had received my first preference. I was so proud of myself.

From the day I was accepted to university, the worrying started about if I was up to it, if I was going to be able to write an essay or use a computer. I found that all i needed to learn was too much once I started my course fulltime, so I chose to do my first year of the course over two years. Once i had finished 1st year I was ready to go fulltime, and I was able to finish my degree over a 5 year period.

Since that first day of university I have seen amazing changes in my skill levels. From struggling to write my first essay and taking 8 hours to type 500 words, I have progressed to a stage where I know I can get at least a distinction if I write an essay. I know that any task or goal I wish to achieve is very possible if I set my mind to it and if I am willing to do a little bit of hard work.

In November 2002 I was injured and I was unable to complete all my assignments required to pass my course. The injury took me ages to get over and in March with the deadline for graduation at hand I forced myself to complete the last two essays I needed to write.

Well i did it, I handed up those two essays and passed them easily, and on the 7th day of April 2003 I walked across that podium to collect my parchment. I was limping still, but i was so proud that I had finally done it.

VIOLET is the colour for a bachelor of education, I am proud to finally be a teacher.

Thankyou everyone who has put up with me or helped me on my way, you have been pillars of strength for me.
