Percentage is better on small boxes. Annette said that lollipops can also be sold for $0.50 each. We get $0.25 for each one. This is our February fundraiser.
· Membership Committee – No new member at this time.
· Social Committee – Mary Fitzgerald has been sending occasion cards faithfully. We are thinking of a spring potluck. The committee will meet to discuss when.
· Student Awards Committee – Teresa Loftis said that there was a suggestion box for teachers to put names in of GED students who need financial help. Teresa will meet with her committee about this. It is at teachers’ discretion since they know the students in need. She urged that January suggestions be turned in ASAP. Annette suggested a cut-off date of the first be set for each month. Brenda added that since GED teachers know who will pass they can put in the suggestions. Nikki said that in the first semester only 2 of the 10 applicants qualified. For the other awards given by CCAE, Annette said she spoke with Marcia who stated that scholarship packets need to be filled out. Those who are qualified at this time will get the scholarship money in June.
V Old Business:
- State Section Conference – We have no new information at this time. It will be at the Radisson Hotel in Sacramento. Gary said that he would support CCAE by allowing 6 people who would need substitutes to go. Those who will not need substitutes can go if they want. A special fundraiser was discussed to help offset the cost of anyone who would like to attend. Anyone interested in going to Sacramento can sign up should let Annette know.
VI New Business:
- Legislation Day is March 13th – Annette will let us know about legislation issues that come up.
- Report on Book Fair – Heck said that it was a huge success and $1,500 is CCAE’s share. “Across America” books are ready for distribution to students. Frances suggested to raffle the books for $0.50 each. Approval was given for mileage to get the books. Whoever drove can get reimbursed at the district mileage rate of $0.375. There will be another book sale for Easter, about the 1st week of March.
- Brenda inquired about the State Art contest CCAE is sponsoring for adults. Annette said she has some information. Title – “Why Adult Education Has Made a Difference”. Glenda will find out more about this when she goes to State Board meeting on February 3rd.
