The Genshiken of Youngstown State University meets Fridays at 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
in Room 2000 of Moser Hall.

Article I. Name
The name of this organization is "The Socity for the study of modern visual culture" or genshiken for short.
Article II. Purpose
The Genshiken's primary objective is to provide a communal forum, at the Youngstown State University,
for those interested in viewing, discussing, or learning more about anime, which is
also known as Japanese animation.
It is the desire of the Genshiken to expose and encourage all members of the YSU's
community to this unique art form and the dynamic potential animation
can offer while promoting awareness of the Japanese culture.
To achieve such goals, Our activities may include, but are not limited to,
weekly exhibitions of anime series and anime movies, exposure to Japanese music,
television, and manga, and organized excursions to anime related conventions.
This organization shall be not for profit or non-commercial in nature.
In order to maintain a sociable environment for any and all individuals interested
in participating in the Genshiken or its affiliates, all material referred
to as "hentai," "yaoi," "yuri," or any other material that could be deemed
objectionable, obscene, or otherwise inappropriate is not permitted.
"Hentai," "yaoi," and "yuri" are Japanese terms that generally refer to material
containing sexually explicit material.
Article III. Membership
All showings are free and open to every member of the YSU's community. Conversely,
full membership is limited to registered students of YSU. However,
faculty and student spouses may be associate members, members who may not vote on
matters concerning the Genshiken or hold office.
Article IV. Discrimination
This organization, including all of its members, will not discriminate against anyone
on the basis of race, creed, color, gender, age, nationality, disability, sexual
preference, or any other polar representation.
Article V. Finance
We do not require any of its members to pay dues and there is no membership fee.
Article VI. Officers
Officers are expected to represent and publicize the club whenever possible.
Additionally, officers need to convey the
image of events the Genshiken sponsors.(if any lol)
Section 1: The offices shall be President, Vice-President, Webmaster, and Faculty Advisor.
Section 2: Nominations must be cast and seconded at the meeting preceding the electoral
assembly. Any member of the
Genshiken may make nominations.
Section 3: Officers may hold office from the first week of Summer A session
to the end of the following Spring term.
There is no limit to the number of terms for which any single member may be re-elected.
Section 4: Roles of the Officers
President
It is the duty of the president to oversee the organization. He or she should
officiate each assembly and represent us
to each organization at YSU.
In the event an officer does not fulfill his or her duties, the president may
appoint an additional individual to the
position in question.
Vice President
It is the duty of the vice president to assist the president in the organization.
In the event of the president's absence from a Genshiken sponsored event,
the vice president would preside in the president's place. The vice president
may also be called upon to complete any duty that is ordinarily assigned to
other officers.
Webmaster
It is the duty of the Webmaster to maintain the genshiken's website. Responsibilities
shall include, but are not limited to,
ensuring related news is up to date, the E-newsletter's mailing list is current,
schedules of screenings are accurate,
and the moderating of the forum. Moreover, the website's appearance should be handled
professionally at all times.
Article VII. Elections and Removal Procedures
All members are entitled to vote on any issue, which has been introduced by the
genshiken's officers that may influence
the future of the genshiken. Such issues include, but are not limited to, the
election of club officers and deciding
which titles to exhibit.
Section 1: Elections are held each spring, during the second week of April,
and terms of office run one (1) year.
Nominations must be cast and seconded at the meeting preceding the electoral assembly.
Section 2: Any full member can be nominated for office.
Section 3: To be eligible to hold an office, a candidate must be a member of the
Genshiken and currently be enrolled
at YSU. Prior to voting, candidates may deliver a speech.
Section 4: The candidates who attain the simple majority of hand votes, given that
fifty-one percent (51%) of members
are present, shall take office. If a draw arises, the current president has tie
breaking authority.
Section 5: If an officer decides to step down from office or is unable to fulfill
duties assigned, another officer
will fill the position as decided by the officers for a temporary basis. Nominations
will be conducted and seconded.
The election will be held by secret ballot and simple majority wins. The club will be
notified of this temporary
arrangement and a date (no longer then 1 month from the date that the officer stepped down)
will be scheduled for
nominations and election. A majority hand vote will determine the newly elected officer
to fulfill the rest of the term.
Section 6: Officers found to be delinquent of his or her duties may be impeached.
Such actions may take place if any member,
excluding the president, motions for impeachment and the motion is seconded.
If the motion is seconded, charges must be
stated and the officer in question may respond. The officer in question may then
be removed from office with a 2/3-majority
vote of eligible voters present, given fifty-one percent (51%) of members are present.
Section 7: President has full authority to choose or change the faculty adviser
for the Genshiken. The choice has to be
approved by the members by simple majority of hand votes, given that fifty-one percent
(51%) of members are present.
Article VIII. Committees
Committees may be formed at any time, according to the needs of this organization.
Each committee will consist of
volunteers. The volunteers shall independently nominate and elect someone to serve
as chairperson for that committee.
The chairperson shall serve until the project for which the committee was formed is
completed. It is the responsibility
of the chairperson to report, to the rest of the organization, the progress of the
committee.
Article IX. Authority
This organization shall conform to the regulations prescribed by the Student Guide and
other laws and rules governing
YSU and its students. Hazing is, by all means, prohibited.
Article X. Amendments
Any member of the Genshiken may propose an amendment to the constitution. If any member
desires to propose an amendment,
they must inform the president one week before they make any motion and must submit a
written draft of the proposed amendment.
Once an amendment is proposed, it must be seconded. If the movement is seconded, the
motioning member may deliver a speech and discuss
why he or she thinks the amendment should be made. The constitution may then be amended
with a 2/3-majority vote of eligible voters present,
given fifty-one percent (51%) of members are present.
