Lesson 2: Plurals of basic forms

The imperative plural is a command to more than one person. It is formed by adding -d after the stem vowel:

¡Esperad! 'Wait (all of you)!'
¡Preguntad! 'Ask (all of you)!'
¡Cantad la canción! 'Sing the song (all of you)!'
¡Bebed! 'Drink (all of you)!'
¡Corred! 'Run (all of you)!'
¡Aprended el verbo! 'Learn the verb (all of you)!'

As with the infinitive, adding this consonant to the end shifts the accent to the final syllable.

The present plural is formed like this:

'We do': add -mos after the stem vowel:
esperamos 'we wait', preguntamos 'we ask', cantamos 'we sing'
bebemos 'we drink', corremos 'we run', aprendemos 'we learn'

'You (plural) do': add -is after the stem vowel, and shift the accent to the last syllable:
esperáis 'you wait', preguntáis 'you ask', cantáis 'you sing'
bebéis 'you drink', corréis 'you run', aprendéis 'you learn'

'They do': add -n after the stem vowel:
esperan 'they wait', preguntan 'they ask', cantan 'they sing'
beben 'they drink', corren 'they run', aprenden 'they learn'
