The Naginata was a very difficult weapon to use. Not only because of the weight

of the weapon, but also because it was ca. 2 meters long.

The cutting edge, or tang, was made the same way as the katana.

With a specially hardened edge, or hamon, it was a very dangerous

weapon. Below are a couple of images of naginatas.
