OVERVIEW
Two actors start a scene from a suggestion of a place. They then do a strait improv and try to make it funny and physical. When the actors get into an interesting physical position the audience shouts out FREEZE! The actors then freeze in the exact position. Another actor comes out on stage and taps out one of the two actors. The new actor then gets in the position the other actor was in. It is now the job of the new actor to start a new and different scene based on the position of the two actors. Again the audience will shout freeze, stopping those two actors. A different actor goes up and repeats the process. After everyone has been up a few times the improv stops
INTRODUCTION
Our next improv is called
Freeze Tag. This is a chance for you, the audience, to control the scene.
Two actors will come up on stage and start a scene based solely on your
suggestion. After the actors have established the scene you can then yell
out freeze!! Let’s try that. 1 2 3 FREEZE! Great. When that happens, our
actors will then freeze, and a new actor will come on stage, tap out one
of them, and replace them in the exact same position. The new actor will
then start a completely new scene based solely on his or her position.
Remember to give them time
to start the next scene before you yell freeze.
DO’S
Try to keep your movement slow so you’re not caught
off guard
Set up the characters of the new scene fast
Freeze when they say freeze
Replace the actor as close to how they were as you
can
If they won’t yell freeze, get in an uncomfortable
position
If they yell too fast don’t be afraid to tell them
to slow down
Start the new scene fast
If the actors are in an uncomfortable position make
them sweat a little
Choose strong characters
Don’ts
Cheat your position
Do a scene similar to one just done
Stay in the gutter
