Asian volleyball tournament underway while Pakistan’s team fails to show

Iran and Chinese Taipei began the 17th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championships on a high note, with the competition starting yesterday in Dubai. The nine-day competition has resulted so far in Iran beating Kazakhstan 3-0, according to Gulf News. Bahrain has so far won over Myanmar, with Sri Lanka beating Oman.







Turkey: 72 football fans detained for blackmail

The Interior Minister says police have raided homes and detained 72 members from fan groups of the three biggest Turkish football teams for their alleged involvement in blackmail, threats and other crimes. Muammer Guler says the Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Besiktas fans are suspected of engaging in “organized crime” for allegedly blackmailing their clubs with threats of violence at games that would cause the teams to receive fines or other penalties.

Qatar criticized for promoting ‘slave labor’ in World Cup projects

Qatar has been criticized over the mistreatment of “dozens” of Nepalese laborers in the country who have died due to “appalling” labor abuses, according to an investigation by British newspaper The Guardian on Wednesday.
