Sled Dogs…a Beckie and Benny story (F/fm)

Ó 2004 by Sampast

This story is dedicated to Sara, for all her creative input.  Thanks!  And to Jon, who just keeps me laughing every day…especially with his wacky ideas, which no real four-year-old would ever do!  HUGGGGGGGS!

~~~~~~~~~~~
It was almost Christmas time.  The Magic Kingdom was all decorated for the holidays.  In fact, they had one section of the park designed as Christmas Village.  It housed Santa Claus and the elves, a toy factory, Santa’s house, a home for the reindeer, etc.
Beckie and Benny loved to go see it.  Deidre had taken them half a dozen times already.  They never got tired of it.  Christmas was their favorite holiday.  Beckie was beginning to think she liked Christmas Village better than ‘It’s a Small World’.
The twins had managed to keep out of major trouble for the most part since their last adventure over the summer.  It was then that Dee had had to punish them for taking the bus to the Magic Kingdom and walking around by themselves.  Since then, they often got themselves into a few minor scrapes, but nothing that big.
About a week before Christmas, Deidre asked the twins if they wanted to go to Christmas Village.  “You bet, Mommy!” Benny replied.  Beckie just laughed.  “Mommy, did you think we was gonna say no?”
Dee laughed too.  “No, I guess not.  Okay, go get your jackets, it’s supposed to be a lil cool tonight.”
The twins got their jackets and went off with their mom.  They took the shuttle onto the MK lot.  The twins waved to a bunch of people that they knew.  They knew everyone.  It always amazed Dee how many people they knew.  Of course she knew almost everyone because she worked there.
They got to the entrance of Christmas Village and saw the huge sleighs.  “Can we ride in one, Mommy?” Benny asked.
Dee frowned.  “All it does is take you around the village, babybunny.  You’ve seen it a million times.”
“Awww, please, Mommy,” Beckie begged.
“Don’t you just want to walk through?”
Both the twins shook their heads no.  “Okay, okay,” Dee said, relenting.
They stood on line with all the tourists and got into one of the sleds.  It was being ‘driven’ by some elves, which Dee waved to as she climbed on with the twins.  It was also made to look like dogs were pulling the sleighs.  These sled dogs were kept in a kennel off to the side of the village.
They settled under the big quilt on the sled, and looked at all the sights.  Sometimes Deidre could imagine that they were somewhere cold, like New York.  But deep down she was glad they were just in Florida, where it was mostly warm all year round.
Dee smiled as the driver elf pointed out all the sights.  The twins came there so often they could probably say the whole tour by heart.  “Over there is the main workshop where the elves make the toys.  Over here is where the elves live...”
Deidre’s mind drifted as the elf pointed out all the little shops in the elf village. She was thinking about the party that was planned for Christmas Eve.  Santa was going to come.  She knew the twins would be so excited to see Santa up close.  Then after the party they would go home; she would tuck them in, and in the morning they would wake up to find the house filled with toys.  Christmas was such a great time of year.  She loved the holiday as much as the children.
Dee tuned back into the elf that was explaining the other elves.  “These are some toy-making elves. The toy makers all have the green hats.  See over there, the ones with red hats?  They take care of the reindeer and sleigh and house and stuff.  And the ones with the blue hats, they do administrative work.”
Finally the sleigh pulled up in front of Santa’s house.  Everyone got out, including the twins and Dee.  Beckie and Benny looked at it in awe, as if they were staring at it for the very first time.  It was one of the most amazing things they’d ever seen.  The house had a million lights and displays, but nothing overdone or tacky.
The house was decorated with lit-up gingerbread men, gingerbread houses, toy soldiers, teddy bears, ice skaters, carolers, angels, stars, candy canes, Santa’s, reindeer and elves.
Right in front of the house was a big huge Christmas tree with all the ornaments and decorations, lights, tinsel and garland.  They waited their turn and stepped into the house.  There was an electric train set that ran through the house and Mrs. Claus' collection of Christmas figurines.
In the den, they saw a fire crackling cheerfully.  There was a pretend Santa and Mrs. Claus sitting with a pretend tray of Christmas cookies, candy canes, and mugs of hot cocoa.  Beckie and Benny stared.  It all looked so real.  They wanted to just sit right down with them and dig in.
They walked through the rest of the village, until Dee noticed the twins yawning.  She looked at her watch.  It was getting late.  “Come on, you two, let’s head home.”
“Oh, can we go visit the sled dogs first?” Benny asked.  One of the MK employees had taken them inside the kennel the week before and showed them all the dogs together.
“It really is late, you two.  We can come back another day.  Besides right now the kennel is closed.  Come on!” Dee said, pulling the kids toward the shuttle.  They were disappointed, but if truth were told, they were pretty tired.  Today had been the last day of preschool before the holidays and they had had a big party in the classroom.  They took their mommy’s hand and let her lead them home.
Beckie and Benny could barely hold their excitement in that last week before Christmas.  They were trying to be extra good, so that Santa would indeed come.  They both knew that Santa only visited the houses of good boys and girls.  And he brought coal and switches for the bad kids.  They certainly didn’t want coal or switches in their stockings.
On Christmas Eve, Deidre dressed the twins in their nicest clothes.  Beckie wore a beautiful red dress with a white ribbon and Benny wore a blue suit and tie.  Dee also dressed in a long purple dress and a strand of pearls around her neck.  There wasn’t any one person she was trying to impress.  She just loved the holiday and enjoyed dressing up.
They took the shuttle onto the MK lot.  It was closed to tourists, but open for all MK employees.  The whole park was lit up like a giant Christmas tree.  Everyone who worked in the park was there, with his or her families.  If kids wanted to, they could ride all the rides.  There was someone stationed at each ride.  But the most exciting part of the park was Christmas Village.  Santa was said to be coming to the MK party.  All the kids were ecstatic.
Beckie and Benny ran around with some of the other kids.  Dee kept an eye out but she knew her twins wouldn’t go far.  They wanted to see Santa when he came.
“Hey, Benny, wanna go see them sled dogs?” Beckie asked her brother.
“Right now?” he asked.
“Uh huh.  I bet them’s lonely.  We can bring them some cookies,” Beckie suggested, pointing to the cookies on the table.
Benny looked at all the food at the party.  “Well we can do better than cookies.  Let’s bring them those lil hot dogs, and some other stuffs.”
“Okay,” Beckie agreed.  They went over to the table and filled their plates up.
“You two must be hungry,” said Jim, one of Dee’s co-workers, noticing they had piled the food high on their plates.  He grinned as he watched them try to carry the plates.
“Uh huh, we is,” Beckie lied.  To her brother, she said, “C’mon, let’s go, so we can get back to see Santa.”
“Yeah, let’s hurry!” Benny said.
The two of them went out the door and around the corner to where the kennel was.  It was open and the lights were on, but no one was inside.  “Where’s Shawn? Him was gonna be here to watch the doggies,” Benny said.
“I dunno, maybe he hadda go potty,” Beckie said, slipping inside.  She looked at all the dogs in their cages.  “They not look happy, Benny.”
Benny looked at the dogs.  “Mebbe they don’t realize it’s night time, and they don’t hassa work.  How’s we gonna give them their food? We not hassa key.”
Beckie looked around.  She noticed a set of keys on the table.  “Over there!” she said, pointing.  The two kids went over and set their plates down on the table next to the keys.
“There’s so many,” Benny said.  “Which key is it?” he asked, holding up the giant set of keys.
“I dunno.  Maybe Shawn will come back and show us.”  The two of them sat down and waited.  They looked at the dogs.  “Poor doggies,” Beckie said.  “They looks hungry.”
Benny took a lil hot dog off his plate and tried to shove it thru the gate but it only got stuck.  “We hassa get these gates open.  They’s so hungry, Beckie.”
“Okay, gimme them keys, Benny.”
Benny handed the big key ring over to his sister.  She fumbled with them and tried each one until the door swung open.  Before they had time to get the plates, to give some food to the dogs, the dogs came running out of their cages.
“Whoa! STOP!” Benny yelled.
“Wait!” Beckie cried out.  “We has food for you.”
The two kids watched as all the dogs started running out, not just out of their cages, but right out the door, which they had left open.
“Uh oh!” Benny cried.
“They not aposta be out!” Beckie said.  “Come back!” she yelled, starting to chase the dogs.
But instead of running into the dogs, Beckie ran right into Shawn, who came in carrying a plate of his own.  “What the he--!  What on earth is happening in here?” he yelled.  He looked wildly around, and saw open cages, and no dogs to be found.
Benny looked at his sister.  Didn’t Shawn see all the dogs run past him? He wondered where they all went.  Beckie started to run out the door, but Shawn grabbed her.  “Don’t move!” he said, sternly.  Then he looked over at Benny.  “You either.  Tell me what happened!”
Meanwhile, back at the party, Jim yelled, “Oh my god, where’s Shawn? All the dogs are out!” he gasped, as a bunch of dogs came running through
Santa’s house, eating as much food as they could get their hungry little mouths on.
Deidre stopped talking to one of her co-workers and looked suddenly around, it dawning on her that Beckie and Benny were not in the near vicinity.  “Oh no!  Where’re the twins?” she asked, alarmed.
She watched as some of the MK employees tried to gather up the loose dogs.  She started running around, searching everywhere for Beckie and Benny.  She was just about to start crying, when Shawn came in, with Beckie and Benny in tow.
“There you two are!” she yelled, running to them.  She picked them up and hugged them to her.  “Where have you two been?” she asked.
While she hugged them and waited for her kids to answer, she suddenly wondered if the dogs being out and her kids being temporarily missing had anything to do with each other.
She turned to them and said, “What have you two been up to?”  Before they had a chance to answer, she turned to Shawn and said, “Can you tell me what happened?”
Shawn sighed.  “I really need to go help round those dogs up.  All I can tell you is when I came back with my plate full of food, your kids were in the kennel, all the doors were open, and there were no dogs.  I didn’t see them, but they must have run right past me.”
Deidre suddenly wondered if Shawn had been drinking.  She’s sure she would have noticed if a dozen dogs ran past her.  But now wasn’t the time to be worrying about that.  She had bigger issues.  She looked back down at her kids.
“Did you two let those dogs out?” she asked in a controlled voice.
Beckie looked at Benny.  Benny looked back at Beckie.  Very slowly, the both nodded their little heads.  Deidre let out a big sigh.
“Come on; let’s get your coats.  We are going home, and we’re going to have a BIG talk.”
“But Mommy!” Benny cried.
“No ‘but Mommy’, we are leaving,” Dee said.  She was slowly working herself up to being extremely angry.
Beckie started to cry.  “But we didn’t get to see Santa yet!”
Dee looked at her daughter.  “And you are not going to.  Now let’s go!” she demanded, holding out Beckie’s jacket.
Benny started to cry too.  He put on his jacket, sadly.  The twins watched all the other kids start to gather.  Santa would be coming soon and they had to leave.
“Mommy? Can we splain?” Benny asked, when they were ready to board the shuttle.
“Not now.  I need quiet time.  I will listen to you when we are home, young man,” Dee said.  She realized she was more upset and angry with them than she had ever been.  Part of the problem was that they had ruined her favorite holiday.  She was also upset that they could not see Santa.  Part of her wanted to turn around and let them see him, because she knew they were vastly disappointed.  But she knew also that they had been very naughty and needed to be dealt with.  She dreaded punishing them on Christmas Eve, but it had to be done, and she was the one that had to do it.
The ride home was very quiet.  Dee tried to block out the twins’ sobbing.  She was almost crying herself.  She really did not want to do what she had to.
When they got home, she walked them up to their rooms.  She changed them into pajamas and made sure they washed and brushed their teeth.  “Go potty, both of you, and go into your bedroom.  Mommy is going to change and I will meet you there,” Dee said sternly.
About ten minutes later, Deidre walked into the twins’ room carrying a wooden spoon.  She set it down on Beckie’s bed.  “Come over here, both of you,” she told them.  They were waiting in separate corners even though she hadn’t told them to do that.  It almost made her smile, but not quite.
Beckie and Benny walked slowly over to their mommy.  She pulled them up on the bed next to her.  “Okay, Mommy is calm now.  Tell me what happened.”
“It was my idea,” Beckie announced.  No surprise there.  Many of their escapades were Beckie’s idea, although Benny had his moments as well.
“What was your idea, Rebecca?”
“That we should go visit the doggies.  And bring them food,” she explained.
“Yeah, but when we got there, Shawn wasn’t there,” Benny continued.  They did that often: told stories and took turns as if they had it rehearsed.  But Dee knew it wasn’t; their speech just naturally flowed.  Must have been a twin thing.
“And the cages were locked, and we couldn’t get the food in between the gates,” Becky continued.
“So we sawed keys, Mommy, and was just gonna open the gates to give the doggies the food,” said Benny.
“But then the doggies ran away,” Beckie said, starting to cry.  “We didn’t mean to let them go.  It wassa axident.”
Deidre had been quiet until that point, soaking up everything her four-year-olds were saying.  She finally looked at the two of them and said, “An accident?  How do you accidentally use keys you aren’t supposed to have, open cages and let doggies run away?  I cannot believe you two did this.”
Both kids were crying.  They really hadn’t meant for the dogs to get out.  They really just wanted to give them food.  But how could they explain this to their mommy and avoid getting spankings?  They couldn’t.  They were in big trouble and they knew it.
“They looked sad and hungry, Mommy,” Benny said.
Dee sighed.  “Maybe they did, Benjamin, but it was not up to you or your sister to open those cages and feed them.  Besides, those doggies get fed on a regular basis, and not food from a party.  They’re given dog food.  It was very naughty to even try to feed them that stuff.”
“Oh,” Beckie said.  “We didn’t know.”
“No, you didn’t know, but you could have asked.  And while we’re on the subject of asking, little girl, did you and your brother have permission to leave the party to see the doggies in the first place?”
They both shook their heads no.  “No, you did not.  And what is Mommy’s number one rule?”
“To stay where you can see us?” Benny asked.
“That’s right.  You know you are not allowed to go anywhere without a grownup or without permission.  I’m afraid you two are in very big trouble.  Very big trouble,” she repeated.
“Rebecca, go back to the corner,” Dee said sternly.  Benny gulped.  He didn’t want to be first.  But Dee did this for a reason; she wanted Beckie to see what her plan did, how it made her brother in trouble as well.  Sadly, Beckie walked to the corner.
Dee picked up Benny and put him down on the floor in front of her.  “Tell Mommy why you’re in trouble, little boy.”
“Cuz we goed to see the doggies without asking you and we tried to give them party food and we used keys and opened the cages and the doggies gotted out,” Benny said, all at once.  Then he tried to catch his breath.
“I’d say that’s quite a lot for one evening, wouldn’t you, Benjamin Jay?”
“Yes, ma’am,” Benny said sadly.  Before he knew it, Dee had pushed his pajama bottoms and underwear down and lifted him over her lap.  She lifted up her hand and brought it down on his little bottom.
{Smack! Smack!} “What you {Smack! Smack!} and your sister did tonight {Smack! Smack!}, was VERY VERY naughty, {Smack! Smack!} young man!” {Smack! Smack!}
“Owwwwwwwwww!” Benny cried.
“I expect {Smack! Smack!} you {Smack! Smack!} to stay near me {Smack! Smack!} at all times.  {Smack! Smack!} I look away for a few minutes {Smack! Smack!} and you and your sister {Smack! Smack!} think you can do anything {Smack! Smack!} you please? {Smack! Smack!} I don’t think so!” {Smack! Smack!}
Benny sobbed and kicked his little legs.  His mommy was spanking him harder than she had in a very long time.  Not since last summer when he and Beckie had disappeared from pre-school and went to the MK lot by themselves.  He had hoped to never experience such a hard spanking ever again.
“Owwwwwwwwwwww, I’s sorrrrrrrrry, Mommy!” he screamed.
Dee sighed and picked up the wooden spoon.  “How old are you, Benjamin?”
“Four, Mommy,” he squealed.
“Okay then, four spanks with the wooden spoon to remind you never to do this again.”
Before Benny could protest, Deidre raised the spoon up and brought it down on his already red, little bottom.  {Whack! Whack! Whack! Whack!}
Benny screamed and cried.  Dee scooped him up and held her up against her chest and held him tight, rubbing his back and bottom.  She could hear Beckie already crying in the corner, and wished she were done with them both already.  Dee waited until Benny had calmed down before she set him back on the floor.  She adjusted his clothes.  “Go lay on your bed, bunnyboy,” she told him.
Benny ran to his bed and threw himself on it, sobbing into his pillow.  Dee watched and it nearly broke her heart.  She took a deep breath and looked at her daughter in the corner.  “Your turn, Rebecca Jill.”
Slowly, Beckie walked over to her mommy.  She had wiped her eyes, and Deidre knew that she was trying to be brave.
“Tell Mommy why you’re in trouble,” she began.  Beckie repeated almost the entire thing that Benny had said, only she added, “And it was all my idea, Mommy.”
Dee nodded.  “Wasn’t a very good one, was it, Rebecca?”
“No, ma’am.”
Without further ado, Dee pushed down Beckie’s pajama bottoms and panties and put her over her lap.  “What you and your brother did tonight was very naughty!” she began, raising her hand and bringing it down on Beckie’s bottom.
{Smack! Smack!} “You should not {Smack! Smack!} have let those doggies out of the kennel. {Smack! Smack!}  Even if you didn’t mean to. {Smack! Smack!}  You and Benny had no right {Smack! Smack!}  to even be in that kennel. {Smack! Smack!}  What if the dogs had gotten hurt, or hurt you?” {Smack! Smack!}
Beckie screamed and tried to wriggle away from her mommy’s sharp hand.  “Owwwwwww, I’s sorrrrrrry, Mommy, that hurrrrrrrrrts!” Beckie cried.  She was a protestor, and would fight to the end.
“Yes, it does, young lady. {Smack! Smack!}  And it hurts me that you and Benny {Smack! Smack!} would break {Smack! Smack!} your number one rule.  Mommy would be very sad {Smack! Smack!} if anything bad {Smack! Smack!}  had happened to you {Smack! Smack!} or your brother.” {Smack! Smack!}
At that, Beckie just nodded.  It was getting harder for her to talk through her sobs.
Dee continued to spank and scold Beckie, saying much of the same things she had said to Benny.  She spanked Beckie just a tad longer and harder than she had her brother, since it had been her idea.  Finally she raised the spoon and gave Beckie the last four spanks.
{Whack! Whack! Whack! Whack!}
“Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, I’s sorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry!” Beckie cried, kicking her feet.  She could hear her brother crying on his bed.  Deidre looked over and saw Benny holding his ears.  She sighed, wiped the tears away from her own eyes, and stopped spanking.
“Okay, bunnygirl, it’s all over,” Dee said, pulling Beckie onto her lap, on her knees.  Beckie sobbed on her Mommy’s chest.
“We won’t never do it again, Mommy,” Beckie cried.
“Oh, I know you two won’t.” She looked over at Benny.  “C’mere, bunnyboy.”
Benny got up and climbed up with his mommy and sister on Beckie’s bed.  Dee fixed Beckie’s pajamas and pulled Benny up and placed them one on each leg and held them close.
“I love you two so much.  And I’m sorry I had to spank you on Christmas Eve.”
“We’s sorry we was so naughty on Christmas Eve, Mommy.  I guess Santa won’t come after all,” Beckie said.
“What!? Of course he’ll come,” Dee said, trying very hard not to cry anymore.
“But we did a bad thing,” Benny said, knowing not to say they were bad, but that their behavior was bad.  It had been drilled into them already, at such a young age.
“Yes, you did.  But Mommy punished you both for it, and now you’re both forgiven.  Santa knows that all little children do naughty things sometimes and they get punished for them, and then all is okay again,” Dee explained.
“Honest, Mommy?” Benny asked.  “Santa will still come?”
“Yes, my bunnies, Santa will still come.”  She hugged and kissed both kids.  “I love you two, so much.  Now let’s get you both into bed.”
Beckie and Benny slept on their tummies that night.  And in the morning, their house was filled with toys and Christmas cheer.
The end.  Happy New Year!
