Birthday Bash:- indya.com: December 30, 2000
Salman Khan celebrated his birthday (December 27) at the swanky Mayfair Rooms in Worli. The party was a lavish affair with the entire Khan brigade turning up in full strength to be with Mamu, their nickname for Sallu, on his janamdin. Arbaaz came accompanied by gorgeous wife Malaika who took to the dance floor with sis Amrita Arora. Incidentally Amrita is making her debut this New Year, as an actress of course. That's what they all wannabe in the end.                                                                                                                                                                                           Sohail, the sweetest of the Khan brothers, stuck to wifey Seema and couldn't stop talking about his newborn Nirvaan. The birthday boy Salman walked in hand in hand with a coy Aishwarya Rai, clad in typical a designer salwar kameez. The other star guests included Anil Kapoor smiling away to glory in a bright red sweatshirt, Shilpa Shetty with papa Shetty, Pooja Batra, Nagma and Preeti Jhangiani with her businessman beau.                                                 Ms World Priyanka Chopra made a dazzling entry dressed to the nines (false eyelashes et al) and promptly latched on to every director present in the room which included David Dhawan, E Niwas, Sanjay Chhel and Karan Johar. This one can't wait to get into films. Just like Yukta Mookhey who's finally making her debut in an Aftab Shivdasani starrer.
The party went on till the wee hours of the night. Salman got extremely emotional when Hrithik Roshan phoned to apologise for not being able to attend the party. Hrithik was right in the midst of the Nepal controversy that evening. Hrithik sounded so disturbed over the entire thing and so baffled and bewildered that Sallu had tears in his eyes for his friend.                                                                                                                                                                   Shah Rukh who also wasn't able to make it because of his night shooting for Devdas, had dropped in at Salman's house earlier in the day, to wish him. No scene, no hungama, no unpleasantness. Salman made such a pleasant host that night, that we were left wondering why we couldn't see more of this Salman than the one we usually got to see and hear of.

WISH SALMAN KHAN!- Rediff: November 27, 2000
Wish Salman Khan

Happy  Birthday

Salman Khan

QUESTIONED? - The Hindustan Times: December 17, 2000
Salman KhanFilm star Salman Khan, the male lead in Naseem Rizvi's film Chori Chori Chupke Chupke which is said to be financed by underworld don Chhota Shakeel, was on Saturday questioned for over five hours by the crime branch of the city police.
Sources said the police questioned Salman if he had been pressured by the underworld to accept the film and then take a cut in fees -- the usual modus operandi of gangsters who finance films.
It is, however, not known if the police succeeded in their endeavour as Salman was unavailable for comments. He made a surreptitious exit through the back gates of the police headquarters even as the media was amassed at the front door. The star looked very nervous as he came in for interrogation this morning.

The police also questioned the film's director, Abbas Mastan, who said the unit had had no idea that Chhota Shakeel could have been involved in the film's production. The film's financier, Bharat Shah, who was questioned for the second consecutive day today, claimed that he too had no inkling of Chhota Shakeel's likely involvement in the film. Shah presented the detailed audit of the film's finance to the authorities.
The police were tight-lipped about the progress of the investigations. After yesterday's breakthrough when Rizvi reportedly confessed to his involvement with the underworld, there seemed to be little new in today's questioning of those associated with the film.
The police are also slated to question Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee, the two female stars of Chori Chori Chupke Chupke on the same lines as that of Salman. The two actresses, to whom the summons have been sent, were, however, unavailable today owing to prior engagements.
FRIENDS!- Filmfare Online: November 13, 2000
Well, at the audio release of 'Chori Chori Chupke Chupke', Rani and Preity were at their over-friendliness stunts all over again. And what's more. Rani was heard calling out to her Preity dearest... 'Preetam Preetam'. And then obviously the giggles and talks followed. Also sharing another great friendship were co-stars Salman and Sunju, who were also filled with giggles and small talks with Salman whispering sweet nothings into the Dutt's ears every now and then. But obviously their friendship was shown-off with a li'l more maturity than the gals'. Neways, we hope their movie does well, in the name of friendship at least, if nothing else.Click Here for pictures
FIRST NEGATIVE ROLE - Web Fm: November 11, 2000
Salman Khan will enact the first negative role of his career in his home production to be directed by E-Niwas of Shool fame. There were rumours in the industry that this project was shelved two days ago and that Sohail Khan, Salman's brother, had signed ad-film maker Kailash Surendranath to direct the film. But the rumours were set to rest by a close source of Salman who informed IndiaFM that the E-Niwas project and the film that Kailash is going to direct are two different projects. While the project to be directed by Kailash will go on floors by January-February 2001, the E-Niwas film will start from June next year.
BEFITTING BASH FOR ASH!- indya.com: November 08, 2000
On November 1, 2000, Aishwarya woke up early morning on her birthday even though she wasn't shooting that day. Her house was already full of bouquets when she stepped into her living room at nine in the morning. After breakfast with her parents, the Rai family headed for Jogeshwari, where Aishwarya went to a children's home. She distributed sweets, clothes and toys amongst the children, and spent a few hours with them. Later, they returned home and the entire afternoon was spent receiving calls and wishes. In the evening, after having spent the day at home with her parents it was the boyfriend's turn to get his due. Salman Khan had organized a dinner at his house for his ladylove. Late at night, he dropped her home. It was back to normal the next day at Mehboob Studios where Ash was shooting with Abhishek Bachchan for the Rohan Sippy's film.
ASH & SALMAN GO PUBLIC!- indya.com: November 08, 2000
Last week the Mumbai dailies went crazy with pictures of Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan for what they termed as the couple's first public appearance. The significance of those pictures, which could have been stills from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam or candid pictures taken at any party attended by both stars, was lost on us. The way the headlines screeched, the lovers should have been at least holding hands if not smooching. Now that would have been something to make a noise about.
Salman had his cake and ate it too. He probably knows the press better then they know him. He let the photographers shoot Ash and him together at the audio release function of Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye but for all practical purposes they were still merely colleagues like any other. Kya ullu banaya Sallu ne.
Salman and his cavalry took the front seats, which included Bunty Walia, brother Sohail Khan, girlfriend Aishwarya Rai and Salman's sister Arpita. Salman is the hero of the movie but Ash is not the heroine of this film. She was the chief guest if you please.
The leading ladies of Kahin Pyaar Ho Na Jaaye, Pooja Batra and Raveena Tandon (Rani Mukherjee didn't come) made their entry a little later. But Salman refused to leave the chief guest's palloo except when she was called on stage to do the honours. Aishwarya Rai got really excited about her job when she went up to release the album. She recited a line from a song in the film "Tu jahan rahe, khush rahe yeh dua hai meri." Is she becoming dramatic or is she...
Rai made for the exit immediately after her 'touching little gesture'. Salman, who was talking to a reporter, found girlfriend missing and scampered out of the door, while Murli Mohan Rao, the director of Kahin Pyaar Ho Na Jaaye and producer Shyam Bajaj dejectedly watched the stars leave their party. Yeh log kya jaane pyaar kya hota hai, nai Sallu?
OFFICIALLY YOURS!- Radiosargam: November 01, 2000
"I am a very emotional person. I am not the kind who hides matters close to my heart." This was Aishwarya Rai. And a day after this talk, Ash and Salman went public. At a recent function of a film that did not star Ash, Salman invited her to the stage to release the cassette and Ash gladly did. Besides giving each other the 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' looks, the duo also posed for pictures. And a team of enthusiastic members made most of the opportunity. As for the duo, they made themselves scarce once the party was in full swing. But we managed to track them down and witness that kiss: Click Here for pictures
NEW JOB!- Web FM: October 13, 2000
Salman Khan always wanted to follow his father's footsteps. But he strayed into an unknown territory, acting, with 'Biwi Ho To Aisi'. He did try his hand at writing twice, both misadventures. His first attempt was 'Buland' (with Somy Ali), which is incomplete yet, and the second was a damp squib, 'Chandramukhi'. But Salman seems to believe in the motto, try and try till you succeed. So in brother Sohail Khan's new project, to be directed by E. Niwas (of 'Shool' fame), Salman has decided to write the screenplay himself, with Sohail as companion. Let's see if Salman proves lucky in his third attempt!
THE JINX BREAKS!- Movie Masala: October 5, 2000
If you an ardent Bollywood buff, you must have noticed the coincidence that is very hard to dismiss. We are talking of the Rani-Salman starrer movies. Be it Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (Kajol), Hello Brother (Arbaaz Khan) or Har Dil Jo Pyar Karenga (Preity Zinta), Rani's character always ends up losing out on Salman either because her character dies or his character dies or some other character is scripted to have the 'happily ever after' with Salman. But Rani fans out there who've been wondering whether the Rani-Salman pair was jinxed can have a breather. As the actress recently revealed to sources, two of their forthcoming films have them walking together into the sunset. One of the two is Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, yet again with Preity Zinta and the other is Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaye (co-starring Raveena and Pooja Batra). So, we would finally be seeing the shirtless Khan wooing and winning over the Khandala girl!

MAKING A SONG N DANCE - Movie Masala: October 4, 2000
It warms one's heart to see a living legend like Helen being commemorated during her lifetime. Much was made of this terpsichorean star at a special concert called Helen — The Golden Girl, held on October 1 in Mumbai's Andheri Sports Complex. It brought back memories of this head-turning, gorgeous-great whose feather-light dancing once embodied a fusion of grace, sensuality and skill.
Four big-league actresses — Aishwarya Rai, Raveena Tandon, Urmila Matondkar and Shilpa Shetty — tried to recapture the Helen aura. Urmila danced to Mera naam Chin Chin Choo, the song that first made Helen a star, while Aishwarya grooved to a song from the recent Khamoshi. Shilpa Shetty shook the timbers with her version of Helen's rip-roaring hit, Mungda mungda, and Raveena jived it up with Piya tu ab toh aaja. But none could wipe out the memory of the way Helen had done those dances originally. The heroes had their say, too. Salman, clad in all-black, was obviously emotional about his mother. Dilip Kumar praised Helen to the skies and called her "irreplaceable". While, Sunil Dutt mentioned her unwavering simplicity, Amitabh Bachchan compared her to Helen of Troy and said that he would like his son and grandchildren to work with her, too.
A beaming Helen, clad in an elegant black gown, seemed a trifle overwhelmed by all the effusive praise. But Helen has reason to be proud — for an Anglo Indian refugee from Burma arriving penniless in Mumbai in the early 50s to her current position of eminence, it has been an incredible waltz.

PARTY FOR E.NIWAS - Filmfare Online: September 30, 2000
E.Niwas, the director of "Shool" seems to have benefited greatly from the film and will now be doing a film for Guneet and Sohail productions, the production house run by Salman Khan's brother, Arbaaz and his pal, Guneet or Bunty Walia. The house last produced a flop in 'Hello Brother.' And to launch the film, a party was thrown yesterday at the Mayfair Rooms at Worli. By the Khans and friends for the award winning 'Shool' director, E Niwas. Of course, the press was not much in vision - keeping Sallu's 'love' of the media in mind. No publicity? Some stunt, that!

IT RAIDS! - Filmfare Online: September 26, 2000
Salman, Aishwarya, Urmila, Rani Raided !!
Yash Chopra, Karan Johar, Amrish Puri Also On Income Tax 'List' Of IT 'Enquiry'!
Who or what is most feared in Bollywood? Not the 'shady' financier trying to recover his money from kangaal producers. Not Nana Patekar's temper that threatens to have a dormant volcano spew out flames. Or even Rekha's fickle mind! It is the IT man. The friendly (well, not quite) neighbourhood Income Tax official, who will pay you a visit one fine morning and take away your zindagi bhar ki kamai in cash and kind, if you have not paid your taxes like all good kids.
Just when you thought things were falling thanda in Bollywood this year, the IT department decided to stop by and hot things up a bit as seven famous Bollywood personalities were raided on the morning of the 26th of September. Urmila Matondkar, Salman Khan, Amrish Puri, Yash Chopra, Karan Johar, Rani Mukherjee and Aishwarya Rai were amongst the raided. In addition, the premises of a Chartered Accountant with a wide film clientele and that of a raw film manufacturer too were not spared. The raids began at around 8.30 a.m this morning and were carried out at the offices and homes of the stars and directors at 33 venues. Sixty policemen were also on stand-by for duty. The IT department, meanwhile insists that it had "definite information" and that's when they decided to carry out surprise checks. The raids were carried out between the suburbs of Bandra and Andheri in the western suburbs of Mumbai city. While it is still to early to tell whether the officials are satisfied with what they have found, the raids could go on for another three or four days if they are not. Since morning, the raids were supposed to last another few hours and go on into the day. While Salman Khan is shooting in Switzerland, the names of the other personalities who were present while the raids were being carried out were not revealed by the I-T officials.
A raid on major film personalities appears to be an annual event in Bollywood, not to mention, the most dreaded. It may be recalled that last year too, IT officials raided famous personalities like Shah Rukh Khan. On the other hand, stars like Juhi and Akshay Kumar are known to be pretty prompt when it comes to filing returns. So much so, that Ms Chawla and Akkibhai was awarded a certificate each for being the most prompt (but definitely not the highest) tax-payer in Bollywood this year.

IT RAIDS! - India FM: September 26, 2000
The income-tax department have conducted raids on several top bollywood stars and directors in Bombay. The raids were targeted at Yash Chopra, Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukherjee, Karan Johar, Yash Johar, Amrish Puri and Urmila Matondkar on the tip off that their assets were disproportionate to their income. The raid began at 0830 IST, 26th September, with 150 income-tax officials alongwith 60 policemen descending on the offices and houses of these personalities.
Official said that 16 lockers were sealed after Tuesday's raids. Cash and certificates indicating fixed deposits were also recovered. According to unconfirmed sources, the officers have found Rs 12 lakh in cash from Rani Mukherjee's home.
Most of the film personalities have switched off their mobile phones and put the telephones off the hook and were not available for comment when contacted by IndiaFM.
The operation is likely to continue till Wednesday morning and the details of the raid will be made public anytime after the raid is complete.

A DREAM CONCERT! - India FM : September 25, 2000
In a rare honour bestowed on a veteran artiste, Sohail Khan and Bunty Walia of G.S. Entertainment have organised a concert celebrating the completion of fifty years of Helen in the entertainment industry. The concert, to be held on October 1 at the massive Sports Complex in Andheri, a suburb of Mumbai, the show will witness the coming together of three super-stars – Dilip Kumar, Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan – who will speak eloquently of Helen's achievements. Besides the three super-stars, the evening would witness Aishwarya Rai, Urmila Matondkar, Raveena Tandon and Shilpa Shetty dancing on the evergreen numbers of Helen, right from the 1950s to 1990s. Even the outfits worn by the present-day actresses would be the same that Helen wore for those numbers. The finale would witness Helen shaking a leg on one of her famous numbers, along with Salman Khan.

GETTING FRESH ON A CYCLE! - Filmfare Online: September 22, 2000
People have cold showers or ice packs or even hot cups of coffee to wake up or freshen up. Not Salman Khan though. The man has his own ideas on how to get 'fresh'. And we're not going into his Casanova directory of 'do's and don'ts' here. Recently, the actor woke up feeling a little down and decided to freshen up in a unique way. He hopped on to a bicycle, donned a black helmet and rode all the way from his Bandra home to Kamalistan Studios in faraway Andheri for his shooting. Even as onlookers rubbed their eyes in disbelief at the sight of a whizzing Khan on a cycle. Of course, when he reached his sets after the wind had pelted him in the face enough, he was as fresh as ever. And ready for the 'take'. Whew! Now is that strange or is that strange?

INVESTMENT IN TIPS - India FM: September 15, 2000
Salman Khan has bid for TIPS shares worth Rs. 10 crores in the initial public offering. The issue has received bids amounting to Rs. 40-50 crores from bollywood personalities during the book-building round. The bids have been received from Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, David Dhawan, Boney Kapoor, Jatin-Lalit, Sajid Nadiadwala, Vashu Bhagnani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra & Satish Kaushik to name a few.

Salman Khan:

"I don't communicate with journalists because I don't like what they attribute to me. Would you make friends with a person who constantly makes snide remarks about you?"

RISHI VALLEY - Filmfare Online: August 22, 2000                                                                                        Meanwhile on Salman, he's found a fan in Rishi Kapoor. They have become bumchums on the sets of Ketan Desai's next directed by David Dhawan. What's more, Sallu even packed some succulent home-made biryani to Chints. Which had the Kapoor all floored and flattered.

HAR DIL JO PARTY KAREGA - Filmfare Online: August 20, 2000

The producer of the latest Salman Khan-Preity-Rani starrer threw a bash earlier this week at the Centaur, Juhu to celebrate the "success" of the music and that of his film, 'Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega.' (What? It's been just two weeks since it released!) Like all filmi bashes, this one too started a couple of hours late. While Sajid played the gracious host, hugging everyone around, Preity and he dashed off a little later in to a corner to catch up on the latest gossip, we presume. The good-looking Khan, Salman entered 'just' one and a half hour late clad in a sober white shirt and black jeans and walked straight to the Khan camp where brother Arbaaz waited in a black, see-through shirt. Rani was nowhere to be seen, till about 11:00 p.m and when she did come, there were lots of heads turning as Preity and she got cosy. (Hey, don't you go around getting ideas!) Preity was escorted by beau Marc and refused to let photographers take pix of them together. All that's fine, but was there reason enough to celebrate? Now, that's the question.

CASTING COUP! - WebFM: August 14, 2000

The hottest news of the week is that Salman, Hrithik Roshan & Aishwarya Rai may come together in a film that will be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala whose latest release is Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega. The movie will be directed by Sajid's 'moo-boli bahen', the no.1 choreographer Farah Khan. However, when IndiaFM contacted Sajid to confirm the news, Sajid just smiled and said that nothing had been finalised so far and everything was under planning stages. If insiders are to be believed, it was Salman who thought of this project since he is very friendly with Hrithik and 'good friends' with Aishwarya. Let's wait and watch whether this project takes shapes or not.

WILL THE REAL SALMAN STAND UP? - AVS Online: August 12, 2000

This man defies description!! Sanjay Leela Bansali has been sheepish about not signing Salman for "Devdas". Remember it was Salman who without any questions believed in the film maker when he was a rank new comer. The biggies did not want to touch Sanjay till "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" - but Salman had had no qualms doing "Khamoshi" for Bansali. Anyway Sanjay has been finding it difficult to even lift the phone to talk to his favorite actor. As soon as Stud Khan came to know of his predicament - He picked up the phone, called Sanjay and congratulated him on the launch of his new movie!!!! This Khan is perplexing!!!

LEELA BEACH - Filmfare: August, 2000

A tweetie whispered that Sanjay Leela Bhansali was quite sheepish about the fact that he hadn't signed Salman Khan for Devdas. So much so that he was even finding it difficult to pick up the phone and talk to his "once- fave" star. Until Salman got to know of this, and called Sanjay up. He congratulated Bhansali on his new flick, and exhorted him to stick to his choice of Madhuri Dixit (despite whatever the sceptical industry had to say). While on the Khan, must say that Aishwarya and he have become rather open about their relationship. Besides cooing into the phone constantly, they have been making appearances together as well. Recently they came together to offer condolences to Mansoor Khan, after his mother's demise.

KAHO NA TAYAAR HAI! - Filmstrip: August 11, 2000

Incredible as it may sound, the lovebirds Aishwarya Rai and Salman have been cast in a romantic thriller aptly called 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi'. Even as he media is avidly speculating whether the charismatic Khan will eventually marry the ravishing Rai, this title seems to be the icing on the cake. Meanwhile frantic efforts are on to woo Hrithik to be the parallel hero to form a triangle. And since Salman and Hrithik share a fabulous off-screen rapport, it will be easier to shoot minus ego-clashes and tensions.

ARPITA FLOORED BY HRITHIK - indya.com: August 11, 2000

Last week Salman Khan had a party for Arpita, the little girl the Khans had adopted some years ago. Although Hrithik Roshan came late for the party, he made up for it by dancing for his little fan. He did the entire song from Kaho Naa... Pyar Hai, the climax one, and Arpita was beside herself with happiness. "This is my gift to you", Hrithik told her. Roshan and Salman are bicep-buddies, remember, it was the Khan who initiated the young actor to muscle mania.

WHEEL TALES - rediff.com: August 10, 2000

It happens all the time. You are driving along one of Mumbai's roads early in the morning, and you see this hunk pedalling away for dear life. And you think, hey, that chap looks so much like Salman Khan, even Salman himself could get confused. But, you add to yourself, it couldn't be Salman. On a bike? No way. Next time round, tell yourself it is. Salman Khan. In the flesh. The fitness freak has a thing for bikes -- he uses his top-of-the-line bicycle more often than he does his car. In fact, he has developed this practice of pedalling to his shooting locations, with his car and driver following him.

HURRY THE STORY! - Stardust: July, 2000

This is a strange incident that happened at a time when Karan Johar was looking to complete the cast of his block-buster ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hain’. He had already cast Shah Rukh and Kajol as the main lead and Rani was also playing an important part but the one role that had Karan worried was that of the second parallel hero. Shah Rukh Khan had apparently suggested Salman’s name and Karan thought that would be perfect casting. But he was not too sure about how the Khan would take to the suggestion. Nevertheless, Karan made his way to the place Salman was shooting, with all his convincing powers on full-steam. So there he was, narrating his story to Salman. Every nuance, every detail, every scene just the way it would appear on screen. After all, it was a film that Karan ate, drank, slept and breathed. Somewhere in the middle of his narration, he saw Salman’s concentration wavering. Sallu’s attention span, not his most redeeming feature, had come to an end. And Salman announced, “Okay. I know your film is going to be a hit. So all right, I’ll do it.” A hapless Karan sputtered, “But I have only told you the story till the interval. Your role begins after this.” Dreading another looong story session, the Khan retorted, “I’m sure my role is great too. You’ve got a winner a superhit. Bas?” Well, the rest is history!

Salman Rules:- WEBFM August 8 2000:-  If the number of prints ordered and processed by distributors and exhibitors are an indicator of a star's popularity, then Salman Khan tops the list. A film released with a maximum number of prints on its premiere release confirms the star's popularity and indicates his standing within and outside the film industry.
For quite some time now, there has been a debate about who the most in-demand star is at the moment. In the 1980's and 1990's, when Amitabh Bachchan ruled the roost, a Bachchan starrer used to released with 250 to 300 prints at one go. But, of late, Salman Khan starrers seem to be the hot favourite of distributors and exhibitors.
The year 2000 has witnessed the release of some of the biggest films and the list indicates that Salman is very ahead of his contemporaries. His latest release, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, has created a record of sorts by being released with a record number of 426 prints at one go, the highest-ever for any Hindi film.

Believe it or not, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega has emerged the No. 1 film as far as the prints processed are concerned, crossing the record figure of 424 for Rajshri's Hum Saath-Saath Hain, which also starred Salman Khan in the lead.
Trade Guide has been printing the breakdown of prints some big-budget films have been released with, of late: Mela 368; Kaho Naa.. Pyar Hai; 205; Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani 311; Pukar 320; Badal 327; Hey! Ram 157; Khauff 268; Dulhan Hum Le Jayenga 392; Chal Mere Bhai 320; Jung 242; Kya Kehna! 153; Refugee 300; Bichhoo 313.

SALMAN & ASH - FilmTV India: July 11, 2000:                                            There are strong RUMOURS in the industry that Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai have got married secretly. While there is no confirmation from either side, our sources state that it was a nikkah ceremony solemnized by a Kazi from Mumbai. The marriage took place in a bungalow at Lonavala and was attended by some very close friends of the couple. Aishwarya converted to Islam. Parents of both, the bride and bridegroom, didn't attend the wedding. The couple is said to have gone to New York for their honeymoon and has returned recently to Mumbai. They were spotted together as they returned and as usual were mobbed for autographs. It is well known that Aishwarya's parents were always averse to the idea of their daughter marrying Salman Khan. Producers of films starring Aishwarya Rai are worried about the fate of their films.

Ash comments on the RUMOUR:
She calmly dismisses the entire issue. "Wouldn't the entire industry be aware of it if it had happened? The industry is such a small place, besides I've not even had the time to spend with my family after my mom's accident. I'm not the sort of person to deny something as major as marriage. I'd proudly announce my marriage to the world if it had happened. Also, where is the time to marry? All this is simply ridiculous," Ash shrugs it off impatiently.
KHAN'S NIGHT OUT! - Filmfare Online: June 12, 2000
The uptown night club at the Ambassador hotel in Mumbai, 'Flavours', saw a new flavour on Friday night. The entire Khan family was there in full strength of friends and family, partying the night away. Salman, Arbaaz, Malaika, Sohail's wife Seema (we didn't see hubby himself), sister Alvira, (hubby Atul Agnihotri was absent since his dad only recently passed away), friend Kamaal Khan etc. Salman himself was dressed in the latest American shopping gear (he was away for a month and a half on shows, remember?) and turning quite a few heads, therefore. However, the good-looking Khan seemed morose and distant despite the smile and the perky attitude. With Aishwarya not around to complete the family picture, we probably know the reason for his "ashin' mood".
HEART OF GOLD! - Cine Blitz: June, 2000
A little child of four, suffering from cancer, happened to notice Salman's gold studs when he came to pay a visit. He asked if he could see them. Salman snapped them off, put them in the child's hands and told him they were his to keep.

FAN FOLLOWING SHOOTS UP IN US! - India Post : May, 2000
Muscle Khan Salman Khan's fan following in the US has received a quantum boost thanks to his recent US tour. Though the stage performances did include Bobby Deol, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre and Raveena Tandon, Sallu's bicep-flexing dance numbers had the fans raving for more. So varied was his own performance that supporting dancers found it hard to match up to the different movements of Muscle Khan. Seems like he surfaced all rehearsed for the event and took everyone by surprise. Keep it going, Sallu!?
COMPLEX KHAN - AVS Online: March 13, 2000

Salman is a man with hidden facets - many hidden facets! The more we come to know about him the more confused we get.
We know him as an extremely handsome superstar with a give-a-damn attitude and a penchant for hitting the headlines with his legendary amorous escapades.
On the other hand there is this Salman who has an adopted sister he adores, does charity away from the public eye, is painfully introverted and an extremely devoted family-oriented person.
Professionally he is supposed to be troublesome but it is this same supposedly 'troublesome' person who on principle refused to step into Chandrachur's shoes for a prestigious project which, normally, leading men would have no hesitation doing.
In this cut throat industry Salman had the gumption to help a potential rival build his body. Now it has come to knowledge that Salman is adept behind the camera too - all those photographs of Hrithik you have been drooling over, most have been done by Salman!!!
WHEN BRAWN MEETS BRAWN! - Filmfare Online : March 08, 2000
After a rather tame 'Hum Saath-Saath Hai', Sooraj Barjatya's switching tracks to make a muscle bound entertainer with none other than the raging muscle men, Hrithik and Salman. It might turn out to be a great coup for the Rajshri banner considering both leading men are hot property these days. Salman's got David Dhawan's 'Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge' round the corner while Hrithik 'raging' Roshan is on a golden run with his 'Kaho Na ...' still raking in the moolah. The Barjatya project starring the two is untitled we hear. Considering the two have, so far, let go of absolutely no opportunity at flexing their biceps, how about 'Hum Haath Haath Hai' ?

HIDDEN TALENT - Digital Bollywood : February 28, 2000
So okay, all you folks know him as the handsome superstar, screen hunk, as also the give-a-damn casanova. What very few people know is Salman is also as adept behind the lens as he is in front of it. At least Hrithik Roshan will swear for Sallu's talent as an ace photographer. You see, many of the by-now still of the gorgeous Hrithik, circulating in the market were actually shot by Salman! Normally, Salman wouldn't show it off to all and sundry but he has a fabulous collection of photographs he has clicked all over the globe. Call him a photogenic face with a photogenic mind, right?

TASTE THE THUNDER! - Digital Bollywood : January 19, 2000
The last year has been a stupendous one for Salman Khan. Not only did three of his movies (Biwi No.1, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Hum Saath-Saath Hain) end up among the top hits of the year, even his "extra-curricular" activities were tremendously successful. Before you dirty minds think that we are talking of the star's love-life, let us assure you that post-Aishwarya, the hapless guy has apparently lost all interest in his old hobby of skirt-chasing. Sallu bhai now thinks only about work, work and more work. And the result is obvious to all his admirers. To add to his glee, Salman's ads for Thums Up have also been extremely rewarding-the soft-drink has registered a dramatic up-swing in sales ever since the Salman ads have done the rounds. "Taste the thunder" goes the successful catch-line of the ad, and as far as audience reaction is any indication, female fans of the beefcake star have lapped up the bare-bodied antics of the pocket Hercules. Yea, yea, ladies : taste the thunder of the sexy hunk's fab biceps! While Thums Up laughs all the way to the bank!!

PECTORAL WONDER - India Bollywood : January 14, 2000
Thumps up is reported to have made a dramatic comeback in 1999 and one of the reasons attributed is the return of Salman Khan, it’s old endorser into the telly campaign drawing ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ from teenaged gals. Salman, shirtless, retrieves a Thums Up bottle from underwater when challenged by Bipasha Basu in the jet-ski commercial. The ‘Taste the Thunder’ catchline created by Chaitra Leo Burnett when it took up the challenge of reviving the homegrown brand is believed to have aided the Salman macho magic in luring back the teeny boppy loyalists.

HRITHIK'S GURU! - Digital Bollywood : January 17, 2000

Hrithik Roshan has a showbiz guru. And guess who it is? Wrong if you said papa Rakesh Roshan, who just gifted sonny boy a 10-crore birthday gift called Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai. Handsome hunk Hrithik attributes his drop-dead looks to Bollywood's bindaas boy Salman Khan. Hrithik says hadn't it been for Salman, who trained him at the gym in the early stages, he would never have had the inspiration or motivation to build up that fab bod. Apparently, Sallu and Hrithik, good friends both, used to exercise in the same gym, and when Roshan junior informed the Khan of his intentions to join showbiz, Sallu came forward on his own to help the guy out. With a motivation like Salman, who was not long ago voted among the 10 sexiest men on the planet, no wonder Hrithik has shaped up so handsome.
STILL A TWOSOME! - Filmfare Online : January 13, 2000
All those who said Aishwarya and Salman had fallen out will be eating their hearts out. For the buzz has news very much to the contrary. Yes, the starry-eyed duo were actually spotted together on the 31st at a beach in Goa, if the grapevine is to be believed. After setting the screen on fire in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, things seem to have clicked between the Khan and Rai. Well, this particular pairing will certainly be welcomed by the industry with open arms, especially since it also sets the cash registers ringing like crazy. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's vivid colours in the movie seem to have seeped into the actor and actress' lives too. Hopefullly, their dreams will come true soon. Woh dil de chuke sanam? Right?

BLANKETS TO THE POOR - FilmTV India : January 1, 2000
By the way, Salman Khan celebrated his 34th birthday on 27th December not with pomp and show, but with the poor people of Panvel, 40 kms. away from Bombay. He gifted blankets to them. Father Salim Khan, who has a farm in Panvel, and brother Arbaaz Khan accompanied Salman.

1999 REVIEW - Zee Premiere : January, 2000

1999 didn’t start on an encouraging note for the best selling star of 1998, with Janam Samjha Karo failing to live up to the hype. However, Salman quickly made amends with Biwi No.1 which Govinda had rejected because of its feminine title. A macho Salman had no problems on that count and the film gave one of the year’s biggest hits. The success of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam shot his ratings higher.
Coming in the wake of two huge hits, his home production Hello Brother opened to a fantastic initial draw but Salman’s virtuoso performance wasn’t enough to salvage a film abounding in juvenile humour. The year ended on a happy note for him with Hum Saath-Saath Hain, ensuring that he’s 1999’s best-seller too. On the personal front, Salman continues to be the country’s most eligible but elusive bachelor who has still to decide which girl will be his biwi no.1, the ever faithful Somy Ali or the fair and lovely Aishwarya? Only Salman can answer the million dollar question of the millennium.
