RAGMEG
Classic 27' St. Pierre Sailing Dory
Ragmeg is a classic, wooden Saint Pierre Dory, gaff rigged cat schooner.

I first saw her on the bank of the Le Have River in Nova Scotia resting on her cradle. She had been removed from the water to protect from the winter freeze and was too lovely for me to resist buying and sailing her to my home in Oceanside, California.

The Saint Pierre Dory has gradually evolved over centuries from an all weather workboat, rolled off the beach for fishing in the North Atlantic, to multiple applications of the use of her proven, seakindly hull shape under power and sail. Rameg is a well found example of the seaworthy dory thoroughly described in John Gardner's THE DORY BOOK, as the "widened version".

Ragmeg was built in 1990 by shipwright Peter Willis in Rosebay, Nova Scotia. Peter was raised and learned his trade in the midst of fine wood boat building in Cowes, England, on the Isle of Wright, then brought his craftmanship to Nova Scotia. Ragmeg's original owner took perfect care of her until 2002 when I purchased her.

Ragmeg and I began our odyssey in Spring of 2003, sailed down the East coast of Nova Scotia, rounded Cape Sable, and crossed the Bay of Fundy to Bar Harbor, Maine. We achieved our goal to arrive in Charleston, South Carolina, by early September in order to take Ragmeg out of the water before the hurricane season. Ragmeg opened doors all along the way.

Ragmeg returned to the water in May of 2005, to complete our odyssey past Cuba, to Mexico, Belise, Guatamala, Honduras, Columbia, through the Panama Canal to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Mexico, and home to Oceanside, California in March 2005,
