The Project Friere Literacy Model is designed to enhance literacy
skills of adolescents. We use the approach of Brazilian educator Paolo Friere
which, in essence, utilizes the world experience of the learners. For one
reason or the other students come to the class not reading or comprehending in
a age-appropriate manner. But we assume, necessarily, that each student comes
to the table with experience. It is our task to extrapolate salient aspects of
this approach to suit our needs in inner-city Brooklyn.
