Vespers, also known as Evening Prayer, is part of the Liturgy of the Hours. This is known as the "Prayer of the Church". It is a very ancient form of prayer, dating back to the Early Church.

Although the Liturgy of the Hours was considered to be the prayer of monks and religious for many years, since Vatican II it has been offfered to all Christ's faithful as a way to sanctify the hours of the day.

Most commonly, we are encouraged to pray Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer.

Here at St. Mary's we pray Morning Prayer every weekday at 7:00 a.m. (except on holidays).

We also pray Evening Prayer (Vespers) on the Third Sunday of the month at 4:30 p.m.. During the festive seasons of Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter, we also pray Vespers at 7:00 p.m.
